On the evening of March 25, 2026, Shen Yun New York Company launched this year’s three-week, 18-performance run in New York with an all-new program. The opening performance was sold out, and the atmosphere in the theater was warm and enthusiastic. From the raising of the curtain to its fall, applause from the audience continued without pause.
According to reporting from The Epoch Times New York bureau, Shen Yun’s two-hour performance of pure truth, compassion, and beauty guided the audience through ancient legends, historical stories, and contemporary tales of divinely inspired Chinese culture, bringing inspiration along the way. Bestselling author James Lindsay praised the performance as “world-class” and “highly meaningful,” saying it presents a “beautiful China” before communism and delivers a “message full of hope.”
Matthieu Giraud, a senior global director at a multinational pharmaceutical company, happened to see Shen Yun while attending meetings in New York and was pleasantly surprised. He said the performance brought people “hope” and “positive things,” giving them “a kind of motivation.”
Wu Chongruo, a Chinese New Yorker and Catholic, said, “The revival of culture and the elevation of Chinese morality depends on Falun Gong.” He also stated that although the Chinese Communist Party is carrying out transnational suppression of Shen Yun and Falun Gong, it will not succeed.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Shen Yun Performing Arts. Before the opening, 70 dignitaries from New York State—including federal lawmakers, state senators and assembly members, as well as elected officials from multiple counties, cities, and towns—issued proclamations or congratulatory letters, recognizing Shen Yun’s outstanding contributions and celebrating its 20th anniversary and return to Lincoln Center.
New York State Senate Temporary President and Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins declared in a proclamation: “In recognition of Shen Yun Performing Arts as a respected and admired organization, and on behalf of all residents of New York State, March 25, 2026 is proclaimed ‘Shen Yun Performing Arts Day.’”
Bestselling Author: Shen Yun Showcases Traditional Culture and Inspires
After watching the performance, Lindsay said, “Everything came together perfectly, giving the audience a powerful and moving experience.”
Lindsay, a prolific author, speaker, and founder of a well-known conservative website and podcast, said it was his first time seeing Shen Yun and described the entire performance as “very special” and “astonishing.”
He said, “The overall production is outstanding, and the coordination is excellent. The performers display extremely high talent and skill. The music, lighting, and digital backdrop all come together perfectly, creating a powerful and striking experience.”
Shen Yun is dedicated to reviving 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture that has been nearly destroyed by the Chinese Communist Party. Lindsay said, “It is an amazing, enjoyable, and kind culture.” He added that Shen Yun presents China before communism through dance, telling many remarkable stories and legends in a vivid and memorable way.
“The performance presents very inspiring stories. I was already somewhat familiar with the background, but the way it is portrayed so vividly, along with the interaction of all elements, brings a very strong emotional impact,” he said. “The level of effort shown—whether in long-term training, music production, the dancers, or the overall production—is truly world-class.”
As a bestselling author who has written critically about communism, Lindsay said he has studied traditional Chinese martial arts and understands how the Chinese Communist Party damaged Chinese traditions. “I understand how the CCP destroyed traditional martial arts culture in the 1950s,” he said, adding that under its rule, “there emerged deceptive and false pseudo-culture that ruined what was once a beautiful culture.” For this reason, he highly appreciated Shen Yun’s presentation of traditional Chinese culture.
“I think the message conveyed by the performance is very important—that China has a deep traditional culture,” he said. “These programs show how the CCP intervenes in everything and causes major problems. Every place in the world has its own traditional culture, and communism is a major threat to these cultures.”
He said the performance also shows hope beyond communism: “At the same time, the show delivers hope… in the end, it conveys a message full of hope, showing that things will eventually change.”
Regarding the segments depicting the persecution of Falun Gong and practitioners’ resistance, Lindsay said it made him appreciate the value of a free society: “I’m glad to see that in a country like the United States, people can express and share their beliefs. The persecution they face comes from the CCP, which even tries to extend it into the U.S.”
Lindsay praised the courage of Shen Yun artists: “They are very brave. I’m very grateful for what they have done. Their performance is astonishing, unbelievably beautiful, and highly meaningful. I hope they continue forever.”
Multinational Executive: Shen Yun Gives Me Motivation for the Future
“This was truly an unexpected surprise!” Giraud said after watching the performance, noting that he found “hope” and gained “motivation for the future.”
As a global senior business director, Giraud was in New York attending an important international biopharmaceutical conference. His company has more than a dozen production bases in Europe and North America, with annual revenues in the hundreds of millions of euros. He did not expect to learn about Shen Yun during his stay.
“I happened to have time tonight and checked if there were any seats left. Luckily, I found one. This was a great opportunity and a wonderful surprise!” he said. “It’s my first time seeing Shen Yun—what a huge surprise!”
He said every aspect of Shen Yun amazed him: “Very impressive! I knew nothing about it before, so I came in like a newcomer. I was very pleasantly surprised. I didn’t know much about Chinese culture, and this performance gave me a completely new understanding—very beautiful, very positive, and full of hope.”
“The performance is excellent. From the hosts’ introductions to the live music, plus the rich colors and costumes… it’s fantastic!”
Giraud was amazed by the performers’ high level of skill: “I can’t believe how much training they must have done to reach this level. Wow! It’s truly shocking… what they have achieved is incredible!”
He said the performers’ artistry inspired and energized him, giving him “motivation for the future.”
“This gives us motivation. We all strive to improve ourselves, and when you see what they’ve achieved, it pushes you further.”
He added that Shen Yun conveys positive energy: “You feel energy, you feel motivation—motivation for the future. Especially in today’s turbulent social and geopolitical environment, after watching this performance, you forget everything else—only the positive remains. The contrast is very striking.”
From the hosts, Giraud learned that Shen Yun cannot perform in China, and he expressed hope that one day it will.
Chinese Audience Member: Cultural Revival and Moral Elevation Depend on Falun Gong
Wu Chongruo, a Chinese New Yorker and longtime Catholic who immigrated from Hong Kong, said after the performance: “The revival of culture and the elevation of Chinese morality depend on Falun Gong.”
He was impressed by the lyrics in Shen Yun’s songs, saying, “The CCP’s atheism is destroying human nature. The lyrics say to ‘preserve tradition and kindness,’ which awakens humanity and restores traditional Chinese culture.”
He said Chinese culture is a divinely inspired culture, and that Shen Yun and Falun Gong are working to restore it. “Falun Gong is not wrong,” he said. “It emphasizes doing good.”
He praised Falun Gong’s founder, saying, “Master Li Hongzhi is a prophet who has contributed to history.”
Regarding the CCP’s transnational suppression of Shen Yun and Falun Gong, Wu said it will not succeed, because “Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance” is a faith, and there are divine factors behind Falun Gong, allowing it to grow despite repression.
Wu added, “I admire Shen Yun’s artistry… but more importantly, it awakens humanity and divinity. In terms of faith, I support Falun Gong.”
He concluded: “Although evil is ruling the world, the world will change… the revival of culture and the elevation of Chinese morality depend on Falun Gong.” △
