[People News] It has been two months since Yu Menglong's passing, and netizens have continued to advocate for him throughout this period. The number of global signatories for Yu Menglong has recently seen a slowdown, with over 660,000 signatures as of November 10. However, 660,000 is still not enough. We urge overseas netizens to spread the word further and encourage more people to join the petition.
Since November 3, Lin Beichuan, a military descendant who had been out of contact, has finally been reported to have news.
Netizen Beixing Qiye posted that he received information through a third party indicating that Lin Beichuan might be able to return safely in about half a month. However, this information did not come directly from Lin Beichuan, so Beixing Qiye cannot confirm its accuracy.
In the Yu Menglong incident, Lin Beichuan has gradually emerged as a leader rallying netizens to take action.
Why does the Chinese Communist Party want to control Lin Beichuan for half a month? There are three reasons for this analysis.
First, from November 9 to 21, the mainland will host the 15th National Games in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The opening ceremony is set for November 9 in Guangzhou, with the closing ceremony on the 21st in Shenzhen. The 2025 National Games hold special significance as it mark the first time in history that two former colonial cities will participate in hosting the Chinese National Games.
Reports suggest that Lin Beichuan is suspected of studying at a university in Hong Kong. A retired soldier, Lin Beichuan, has the backing of a veterans' group. Previously, he had issued the slogan 'Only the military can suppress politics,' and the removal of Lin Beichuan's Weibo account was a tactic to sever his ties with that group. Furthermore, on November 9, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan attended the opening ceremony, making security and stability a top priority for the authorities. Local leaders are acutely aware that even minor mistakes could cost them their positions. Thus, controlling Lin Beichuan during this period is likely a strategy to ensure the smooth conduct of the National Games. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is currently on edge, and both Yu Menglong and Lin Beichuan instil fear in them. This situation also highlights that resistance can be effective; significant public sentiment translates into a formidable force of opposition.
Additionally, controlling Lin Beichuan can help obscure the main narrative. The incident involving Yu Menglong has led to the suppression of Lin Beichuan, which may shift the focus of many netizens onto him, thereby diminishing attention on the Yu Menglong case—something the CCP is eager to achieve. The Lin Beichuan incident is relatively straightforward to resolve, whereas the Yu Menglong case has yet to be officially filed, let alone uncovering the true perpetrator or the facts. Consequently, upon realising he might face repercussions, Lin Beichuan has repeatedly advised netizens to mention only the Yu Menglong case in their letters or phone calls, avoiding any reference to him to keep the focus on the main issue. If possible, he suggests waiting for his return. If the authorities manage to resolve Lin Beichuan's situation, the Yu Menglong case will likely be concluded as well.
Third, Lin Beichuan has emerged as a leading figure in the Menglong incident. The authorities aim not only to suppress Lin Beichuan but also to set an example to intimidate others. They have employed online trolls to generate negative public opinion against him, sowing internal discord and fostering distrust among netizens, which could even lead to infighting. Ultimately, even if the vilified Lin Beichuan is released, it will be challenging for him to regain his influence. Once the collective strength is fragmented, it becomes difficult to reassemble, potentially leading to a complete breakdown.
At that time, Lin Beichuan was merely a bystander voicing his opinion, which did not garner much attention.
On September 12, the day after Yu Menglong's passing, Lin Beichuan posted on Weibo: 'Security checks, DNA evidence collection, and eyewitness testimonies have all been completed, and yet a non-criminal case is announced so quickly?' He further mentioned that shortly after his post, he was contacted by certain individuals requesting that he delete it, but he was unwilling to comply.
Lin Beichuan also disclosed: 'The directive from a certain authority is: do not pay attention, do not discuss, resolve quickly. Wherever you received the order, you can observe how these individuals handle matters; interpret it as you will.'
Given Lin Beichuan's background as a descendant of military personnel, he has gained insight into the underlying details of the case. However, since he represents the retired military community, the authorities are eager to suppress him but also wary of the repercussions. After Lin Beichuan refused to yield to the police, they orchestrated an online harassment campaign against him, attempting to tarnish his reputation and erode the trust he had among netizens, thereby diminishing the support for Yu Menglong.
In reality, the Communist Party is not afraid of ordinary citizens causing minor disturbances. However, they do fear a leader who possesses a background, strategy, courage, and charisma, rallying a large group to confront the government.
The key issue in the Yu Menglong case is the necessity to formally file a case. The intelligence and bravery displayed by this generation of netizens are remarkable, as they have directly accused the Chaoyang District Public Security Bureau in Beijing of four serious violations that should prompt a re-investigation.
1. Illegal procedures: According to the 'Regulations on the Public Disclosure of Law Enforcement by Public Security Agencies' issued by the Ministry of Public Security in October 2012, public security agencies are required to release law enforcement information about cases to the public during the investigation phase. The studio, not being a public security agency, has no authority to release such information, yet the police allowed it to act in place of or impersonate the police in disseminating important case details.
2. Malfeasance: The police are required to conduct on-site inspections, reconstruct the scene, investigate the deceased's social relationships, confirm their activities prior to death, check for any incitement, emotional disputes, medical history, and perform autopsies, among other necessary steps, all of which should be completed within 24 hours.
3. Abuse of power: Police reports must include four essential elements: time, place, individuals involved, and events. The announcement provided extensive details about the rumours but failed to clarify the case itself. Moreover, the studio has no right to represent the deceased's family; the family must issue a power of attorney for the studio to speak on their behalf. Additionally, the studio was already deregistered at the time of the incident, which renders its actions legally ineffective.
4. Inaction: Since the incident, numerous videos and audio recordings related to the victim Yu Menglong have circulated online, yet the Chaoyang Public Security Bureau has not responded, allowing public sentiment to escalate, leading to significant social panic and negative international repercussions.
The police in Chaoyang District are fully aware of all the details surrounding the Yu Menglong case. Lin Beichuan has also reported the head of the Chaoyang District Public Security Bureau, Bi Bo, and the Minister of Public Security of the Communist Party of China, Wang Xiaohong, online, but his posts were quickly blocked. The extent of the cover-up by the Communist authorities regarding the Yu Menglong case suggests that the situation is deeply complex and troubling.
The death of Yu Menglong acts as a mirror, revealing the bizarre realities of the mainland entertainment industry and the intricate nature of humanity. Amidst this uproar, some individuals choose to remain silent while others bravely raise their voices. Some netizens may be feeling increasingly pessimistic and disillusioned. When everything seems futile, think of a stonemason who strikes a stone repeatedly. After a hundred strikes, the stone appears unchanged, but on the 101st strike, it suddenly splits in two. The stone did not crack because of that final blow, but rather due to all the efforts that came before it. Justice will not simply descend from the heavens; it requires persistent effort to knock on its door time and again. We must believe that small, cumulative efforts can lead to significant outcomes, and that perseverance can overcome even the toughest obstacles. Dawn is not something we passively await; it is something we actively create. The truth may arrive late, but it will never be absent. Netizens declare that they will not concern themselves with anything else; they will write letters, make phone calls, tighten their wallets, stop watching movies, cease subscriptions, and no longer contribute financially to the entertainment industry.
