[People News] Today, Zhao Lanjian posted on the social media platform X, revealing the latest developments regarding the whereabouts of He Weidong after his arrest. He claimed that "reliable sources" reported that He suffered a sudden heart attack and is currently being held at 301 Hospital under strict surveillance. The entire ward has been sealed off by the military, with soldiers heavily guarding the area. Once his condition stabilizes, he will be transferred to the Jingxi Hotel for further interrogation. Zhao also stated that the "Central Military Commission (CMC) headquarters has launched a comprehensive purge operation, collecting all documents, speeches, photos, and videos related to He Weidong during his tenure as CMC vice chairman, and submitting them to the CMC General Office to ensure his influence is completely erased."
News of He Weidong's arrest has been circulating for a week, yet the CCP has not issued any denials or arranged for him to make a public appearance. On March 14, a symposium marking the 20th anniversary of the Anti-Secession Law, which he was supposed to attend, was instead inexplicably presided over by Liu Zhenli, Chief of the Joint Staff Department. This fueled widespread speculation that something had happened to He. Some insiders even claimed that "because party elders and the military want Xi to step down in the next term, He, a close ally of Xi, was taken down to prevent a military coup." However, due to the lack of additional sources to verify this claim and the CCP’s opaque and dictatorial system, analysts are considering an alternative possibility: What if He Weidong was not arrested but is simply too ill to make a public appearance?
Of course, this is possible. Currently, Beijing is experiencing simultaneous outbreaks of influenza A, influenza B, and COVID-19. During the closing days of the "Two Sessions," Zhao Leji was publicly reported to have contracted a respiratory infection. So why wouldn't He Weidong also be sick? The strange thing, however, is that Zhao Leji's serious illness miraculously disappeared overnight, while He Weidong has been "ill" for a week and has yet to recover.
Is it possible that He Weidong was suffering from heart disease at the time of his arrest? Certainly, it is a possibility. There have been previous cases where high-ranking officials of the Communist Party of China have suddenly died from heart disease. For instance, Hu Yaobang from the past and more recently, Li Keqiang, both of whom were in good health but unexpectedly suffered heart attacks during meetings or developed heart issues while swimming. Regardless, as Zhao Lanjian pointed out, He Weidong's disappearance serves as a significant indicator of potential major shifts in the political landscape of the Communist Party of China in the future!
However, if He is indeed unwell and unable to make public appearances, regardless of the underlying cause of his illness, being at 301 Hospital may not bode well for him.
301 Hospital is the largest comprehensive hospital in the People's Liberation Army, also referred to as the General Hospital. It is a unit directly under the Joint Logistics Support Force of the Central Military Commission, officially responsible for the medical care of leaders of the Communist Party and the Central Military Commission. In reality, it serves as a special site for political coups and the assassination of high-ranking officials within the Communist Party. Notable figures such as Peng Dehuai, Chen Yi, Deng Xiaoping, and Xu Caihou have all died in this hospital. High-ranking individuals like Zhou Yongkang, Bo Xilai, and Ling Jihua have also been sent here, ostensibly for 'treatment,' but in reality, they were placed under house arrest and control. It is reported that Deng Xiaoping was once advised by Jiang Zemin to ensure that the medical staff 'administer medication properly,' and Xu Caihou was ordered to have his tubes removed.
The most widely reported murder case involving the 301 Hospital is that of Jiang Zemin allegedly murdering Yang Shangkun. At that time, Yang Shangkun was deeply dissatisfied with Jiang Zemin, who had never held a gun, for using the military to support his own deification campaign, promoting generals without merit, and corrupting military governance. Upon learning of Yang's discontent, Jiang Zemin concluded that keeping him around would ultimately pose a problem. After Deng Xiaoping's death, Jiang Zemin recognized that aging inevitably leads to illness, and the experience of using 'strong measures to treat and eliminate' in hospitals was crucial for seizing, stabilizing, and consolidating political power. In the winter of 1996, Jiang Zemin gathered key figures to discuss the renovation of the temperature and humidity in the south building wards of the 301 Hospital, claiming it was to 'care for' and 'look after' the founding leaders.
The opportunity finally arose in the autumn of 1998 when Yang Shangkun caught a cold and was admitted to the 301 Hospital, which was entirely under the control of Jiang Zemin and his trusted secretary. Yang passed away suddenly after only a short stay in the hospital. Yang's family requested an investigation into the cause of death from the central government, but they were thwarted by Jiang Zemin through threats and inducements, with some even being detained.
Now, the 301 Hospital has long transcended its role as a medical institution and has become a secret tool in the political struggles of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Insiders indicate that 'the 301 Hospital is no longer merely a medical facility, but a covert instrument for the CCP to carry out terror politics.' Over the past fifteen years, the 301 Hospital, which claims to extend the lifespan of party and state leaders to 150 years, has increasingly showcased its role in killing or exchanging organs for bribing high-ranking officials, becoming a key site for eliminating dissent and manipulating political positions. If He Weidong, as the vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, is indeed detained here, it would serve as yet another bloody testament to the power struggles within the upper echelons of the CCP.
Zhao Lanjian and other commentators assert that the rumors regarding He Weidong's detention at the 301 Hospital, in conjunction with the military's pervasive corruption, not only cast serious doubt on the legitimacy of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) political tactics but also expose the terror and extremity inherent in this political system. This situation highlights the opacity, darkness, and hidden agendas within the upper echelons of the People's Liberation Army (PLA); there is little they cannot achieve if they choose to act. Should a comprehensive investigation take place, even more of the CCP's malevolence could be revealed to the public.
Analysts point out that regardless of He Weidong's current location or whether he has been apprehended, the incident itself has become a central topic of global discourse. It encourages a broader examination of the CCP's history and present, particularly how it employs inverted truths to manipulate public opinion and obscure the harsh realities of its persecution of political opponents. This has directly drawn attention to the deeper issues plaguing the CCP's political framework. Through such terror tactics, anyone can find themselves in a vulnerable position, leading to a complete breakdown of societal order and moral standards. In this tumultuous context, the fates of He Weidong and other missing high-ranking officials will provide crucial insights into the CCP's future direction. Thus, the veracity of the rumors becomes secondary; what is significant is that the international community may observe how a seemingly robust regime is spiraling into a more profound crisis amid both internal and external pressures. This encapsulates the significance and implications of the rumors surrounding He Weidong's heart condition at '301.'
