June 4 Memorial Hall Vandalised, Protests Erupt Across Three Provinces
[People News] Greetings, audience friends! Welcome to the June 1st edition of 'Forbidden News Unveiled.' I am Sun Ning.
On the eve of the 37th anniversary of the June 4 Tiananmen Incident, the June 4 Memorial Hall in Los Angeles, USA, was deliberately vandalised on the morning of May 31, 2026. A group of skilled intruders, after carefully disabling the surveillance cameras inside the hall, pried open the door to gain entry. They arrived with a politically motivated mission dictated by totalitarianism, recklessly spraying bright orange-red paint on valuable historical artefacts in an attempt to erase the public's memory of that historical period through acts of destruction.
Among the items defaced were the historical front page of the Hong Kong 'Ta Kung Pao' from 1989, which documented the bloody crackdown by the People's Liberation Army and the resulting thousands of casualties, as well as numerous righteous messages left by visitors.
Wang Dan, the director of the memorial hall and a former student leader, later expressed on social media: 'The motive behind this crime is not hard to imagine.' He further stated: 'The June 4 Memorial Hall will not be closed due to such acts of vandalism and threats; on the contrary, we look forward to enhancing the memorial hall with support from all sectors! No matter how fierce the storm, we will stand strong!'
Today, over thirty years later, who is most afraid of the term 'June 4'? Who wishes to completely erase this blood-stained history from the earth? The answer is clear. The Chinese Communist Party's overseas infiltration and acts of destruction only serve to demonstrate that the regime, which wields steel tanks, continues to tremble day and night over the blood debts incurred more than thirty years ago.
However, the oppressive hand of tyranny ultimately underestimated the strength of the human spirit. The second "China Forum," which was originally set to take place that afternoon, focused on the theme of "Cross-Generational Cooperation in Political Opposition Movements."
In the face of walls splattered with paint and overt threats, both the organisers and the public showed no signs of backing down. The forum not only went ahead as planned but was also filled to capacity with overseas Chinese and young international students who came to express their support! This glaring orange-red paint did not erase history; rather, it became the latest testament to the dictatorship's fear, guilt, and cowardice!
Candlelight blooming everywhere serves as an indelible memory across the globe.
When a totalitarian regime attempts to snuff out a spark, millions of lights will shine in the night sky worldwide! The commemoration of the June Fourth Incident has evolved from a private mourning in a corner to a global movement for justice that transcends borders and time zones, resonating around the world. This year's June Fourth commemorative activities will take place in over 30 cities globally.
The UK will host the largest scale of events, with 12 cities participating in the commemorations. London will hold a rally outside the Chinese Embassy on the evening of June 4, while cities like Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff, Sutton, and Birmingham will also host rallies or candlelight vigils that same evening. The White-Haired Mothers of Tiananmen
At the core of this global commemoration, the most poignant and heartbreaking sight is a group of elderly women with white hair - the 'Mothers of Tiananmen.'
After 37 years, spanning over ten thousand days and nights, the black-haired mothers of that time have now become frail, elderly figures. In the past year, fellow activist Xiong Hui passed away, leaving behind endless regrets. His son, Xiong Zhiming, was just 20 years old when he fell at Tiananmen in 1989, a time when he was full of life as a student in the economics department at Beijing Normal University. A bullet took his son's life, while the system has subjected the father to thirty-seven years of silence. These elderly individuals have dedicated the latter half of their lives to fighting against the state's attempts to erase their memories, and until their last breath, they have been unable to seek justice for their sons! This tragedy extends beyond a single family; it is a glaring indictment of the system itself!
Data indicates that within the 'Tiananmen Mothers' group, as many as 43% of the signatories have quietly passed away, burdened by the regret of not being able to seek justice for their deceased loved ones. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities are employing a particularly cruel tactic of delaying time, hoping to wait until all these elderly individuals have died, allowing the crimes to vanish into obscurity.
This year, the 'Tiananmen Mothers' group once again issued a joint memorial through overseas networks. This declaration, signed by 107 individuals, is filled with poignant emotion yet remains remarkably rational. They reiterated their three longstanding demands that have not changed in over 30 years: to reveal the truth about the tragedy, to provide fair compensation, and to hold those responsible accountable under the law. In their memorial, they vehemently condemned the authorities, asserting that no matter how the narrative shifts, it cannot obscure the brutal reality of using military force to suppress civilians and take innocent lives. This is a debt of blood that cannot be ignored; every name is clearly recorded in the annals of history.
Uncovering the dark chapters of history requires enduring perseverance; resisting the amnesia fostered by totalitarianism demands both physical strength and an inexhaustible supply of energy.
In light of these mothers' heart-wrenching cries over the past 37 years, what are the leaders in Zhongnanhai doing?
Ironic Commemoration
Just last year, on November 20, 2025, the CCP held a high-profile symposium at the Great Hall of the People to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Comrade Hu Yaobang's birth. Xi Jinping personally attended and delivered an extensive speech. In the footage aired on the news, Xi Jinping praised Hu Yaobang as a 'great proletarian revolutionary and politician' who made 'immortal contributions.'
This speech may seem to have a high level of sophistication, but in reality, it is a meticulously orchestrated political makeover. Throughout Xi Jinping's lengthy address, which spans thousands of words, he stresses Hu Yaobang's 'unwavering loyalty to the Party' and underscores Hu Yaobang's 'noble spirit.' However, he completely ignores Hu Yaobang's most remarkable traits—his liberal inclinations that advocated for the separation of the Party and government and political reform.
Even more absurdly, the speech fails to mention the significant link between Hu Yaobang's death and the 'June Fourth' democratic movement!
It is widely recognised that the 1989 student protests were sparked by university students mourning Hu Yaobang's passing. The students honoured Hu Yaobang because he was progressive and opposed totalitarianism and corruption! Yet, while Xi Jinping elevates Hu Yaobang to a pedestal in an attempt to legitimise his position within the Party, he simultaneously conceals the truth about the democratic movement that emerged in Hu Yaobang's wake.
The 'Tiananmen Mothers' publicly urged Xi Jinping in their memorial to embody Hu Yaobang's spirit of 'selflessness and fearlessness, correcting mistakes when they arise,' and to courageously accept historical responsibility. However, it now appears that such an appeal is akin to playing the lute to a cow. What Xi Jinping truly seeks is merely a political zombie, stripped of the essence of reform and branded with 'absolute loyalty'!
The irony of history often surpasses even the most dramatic literary works. Today, Xi Jinping stands on stage, calmly rewriting history, yet he seems to have forgotten the close political relationship he shared with Hu Yaobang, which could even be described as a political symbiosis, through his own father, Xi Zhongxun.
Let us rewind to the tumultuous and impoverished late 1970s.
The decade-long catastrophe had just concluded, leaving China scarred and battered, with countless wrongful convictions accumulating. At that time, Xi Zhongxun was labelled a member of an anti-party group due to a novel titled 'Liu Zhidan,' enduring 16 years of persecution and imprisonment. Hu Yaobang, who was then the Minister of the Central Organisation Department, faced immense pressure from the extreme left and took significant political risks to assist in Xi Zhongxun's rehabilitation.
With the backing of Ye Jianying, Hu Yaobang later appointed Xi Zhongxun to Guangdong, where he served as an official tasked with 'guarding the southern gate.'
By the mid-1980s, conservative elders within the Communist Party launched a fierce counteroffensive against Hu Yaobang's comprehensive reform agenda. In January 1987, a party 'life meeting' was held to criticise Hu. Confronted with a collective assault, criticism, and attempts at a palace coup from hardliners, many who had benefited from Hu Yaobang's policies chose to remain silent, with some even turning against him, adding insult to injury.
At that meeting, only Xi Zhongxun spoke out in defence of Hu Yaobang.
However, today’s Xi Jinping stands at the pinnacle of power. He has not only betrayed Hu Yaobang, who sheltered and supported his father, but has also completely abandoned the institutional and legal reforms that his father, Xi Zhongxun, advocated during his lifetime!
Xi Zhongxun despised the Cultural Revolution throughout his life because it enforced a single narrative and personal worship, leading China into an abyss of no return. Yet, what has his son, Xi Jinping, done since taking power? He has amended the constitution, abolished the presidential term limit, established a cult of personality, and promoted a new era of personal worship.
In the past, Xi Zhongxun worked tirelessly alongside Hu Yaobang to promote political reforms that separated the party from the government. In stark contrast, Xi Jinping today loudly declares, 'East, West, South, North, the Party leads everything, including the military, the people, and education,' extending its influence into every aspect of society. While Xi Zhongxun aimed to protect diverse opinions, Xi Jinping has created the most comprehensive digital surveillance system in history, exiling critics of the central government and imprisoning dissenters. Even a casual comment online could lead to a police visit.
Xi Jinping's regressive policies have dragged the populace back to the era of the Cultural Revolution, characterised by political slogans and economic despair, pushing the Communist Party to the brink of collapse.
No freedom, rather death! 2026 Youth Awakening
High walls and bayonets may create a facade of silence, but they can never halt the flow of history. Many are questioning whether today’s youth in China, raised on the Communist Party's indoctrination, will rise for freedom as their predecessors did 37 years ago.
The answer is clear, as a new wave of protests has erupted with tremendous force in this new era!
On the morning of May 16, a dramatic scene unfolded at the First Middle School of Wenshang County in Jining City, Shandong Province. This school has long enforced the ridiculous 'four weeks and one break' policy, allowing students only 24 hours of rest each month. However, the newly appointed vice principal sought to intensify the situation, unilaterally announcing on the evening of May 15 that, to increase exam time, the weekend dismissal would be delayed by an additional two hours!
It was these two brief hours that became the final straw that broke the camel's back. The students' anger spread in the darkness, and they communicated through word of mouth, organising the most basic yet effective collective action without any modern online tools.
At 9:50 AM the following day, when the class bell rang, students on the third floor of the teaching building were the first to raise their arms and shout 'Let us have a holiday!' as they rushed out of the classroom! Following them, over 2,000 students from the first and second years surged like a tide towards the school square!
In the centre of the confrontational square, several brave youths boldly held up a banner that read: 'Fight for sovereignty externally, punish traitors internally!' This slogan dates back 107 years to the May Fourth Movement in Beijing, which stood against tyranny. Today, over a century later, students in Shandong have taken up this torch, directing their anger at the 'campus traitors' who have stripped them of their basic rights! A full 45 minutes of collective shouting forced the school authorities to concede entirely, and they were compelled to announce the cancellation of the decision to delay the end of classes on the spot. This action, proudly referred to by the students as the 'Wenshang No. 1 High School Uprising,' demonstrated a hard truth: the tighter the control, the stronger the backlash!
The conflict in Shandong has not yet settled, and unrest has reignited in Guangxi and Hubei!
From late night on May 26 to the early morning of May 27, students from Guangxi Sports Vocational College and Guilin Aerospace Industry Institute staged an all-night collective protest due to prolonged power outages in the school dormitories, with no one attending to them on a sultry night at 30 degrees Celsius.
Countless young people gathered on balconies and in front of windows, waving their phone flashlights while singing Beyond's "Glorious Years" throughout the night. They shouted passionately into the darkness: "Embrace freedom tightly in the wind and rain, confidence can change the future!" This heartfelt call for freedom from the oppressed quickly went viral online.
Soon after, on the evening of May 29, the teaching building of the Experimental High School in Yangxin County, Hubei Province, was overwhelmed by protests. Frustrated with the school's long-standing oppressive control, students spontaneously organised a powerful "shouting from the building" movement that resonated across the internet. They leaned out of the windows, collectively singing the song "Freedom Flower," a symbol of resistance.
As the singing continued, countless white sheets of paper filled with messages of protest and discontent were thrown down from the high building like a snowstorm! In an instant, the grass, corridors, and playground of the entire campus were blanketed in white, resembling snowflakes of resistance against tyranny covering the land of China!
Among the flurry of flying papers, one white sheet was captured in a photo by netizens, boldly displaying six characters: "No freedom, rather death!"
These six characters echo the slogan of the American independence movement, yet today, they were written by a high school student who endures daily brainwashing by the Chinese Communist Party and is confined behind the Great Firewall! What does this indicate? It indicates that the yearning for freedom is an indelible, unbreakable, and uncontainable human instinct! Regardless of how you block news or filter the internet, once oppression reaches a critical point, the contradictions within the people will inevitably erupt in any form!
Today, China resembles a high-pressure cooker with its safety valve tightly sealed, the flames beneath still raging, and the internal pressure approaching its breaking point. The recent uprisings in Shandong, Guangxi, and Hubei demonstrate that a new wave of nationwide protests reminiscent of the June Fourth incident has fully ignited! The inevitable explosion of this high-pressure cooker is simply a matter of time.
History will judge tyranny; dawn will eventually break.
Let’s revisit the beginning of this story. The splash of orange-red paint on the wall of the June Fourth Memorial Hall was applied by someone who believed they were fulfilling a task for their master, but in the grand narrative of history, it is merely the last grim trace left by a dying clown’s desperate struggle.
Suppression can never extinguish the truth; tanks have never won the hearts of the people.
The tides of this era are rising, and the volcano of public sentiment is erupting. The confusion faced by countless unemployed youth in 2026, combined with the anger from campus protests, will merge into a massive wave that will bury the Chinese Communist Party regime!
No matter how long the night may be, dawn will eventually arrive. History will ultimately judge tyranny; the people will ultimately achieve their freedom!
