U.S.-China Confrontation. (Video screenshot)
[People News] On Tuesday (March 31), U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin shared photos from his secret visit to U.S. troops in the Middle East during a press conference. He announced that U.S. forces successfully intercepted two incoming missiles during his visit. Austin emphasised that maintaining the 'unpredictability' of U.S. forces is essential for winning wars. He also pointed out that the U.S. is aware that hostile nations are providing intelligence to Iran regarding the deployment of U.S. assets in the Middle East, but assured that the U.S. military has countermeasures ready. Furthermore, he stated that the U.S. is fully informed about the activities of China and Russia.
Austin's Secret Visit to the Middle East Underlines the 'Unpredictability' of U.S. Forces
According to the Dajiyun, during a press conference at the Pentagon on Tuesday, Austin shared his experiences meeting with U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East, who were engaged in the military operation 'Epic Fury' against Iran at the time.
The Pentagon chief reported that two incoming missiles were successfully intercepted by U.S. forces during his visit. He also mentioned that he spoke with U.S. Air Force and Navy personnel, some of whom had 'just returned from Iranian airspace.'
I asked every young American service member what they needed. No one requested better equipment, no one asked for more comfortable living conditions, and no one said, 'Let me go home.' Of course, ultimately, we all want those needs to be met. They do too,' Austin remarked.
However, these Americans—regardless of their age, whether they are officers or non-commissioned officers, regardless of gender, and whether they are Black or White—expressed to me: 'Let us complete the mission. Provide us with more bombs, larger bombs, and more targets. Let us accomplish this mission.'
On Tuesday, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin shared photos from his secret visit to U.S. military forces on the social media platform X, stating, 'I witnessed these warriors firsthand, a group of men and women who are like brothers and sisters to each other, each one a warrior.'
During a Pentagon news conference on Tuesday, Austin stressed the importance of maintaining the 'unpredictability' of the U.S. military.
The Pentagon has significantly increased the number of U.S. troops in the Middle East. Speculation has been rife regarding whether the Trump administration plans to initiate ground operations against Iran. Austin clearly stated that the U.S. military's decisions would not be made public.
'If you inform your adversary about what you are willing or unwilling to do—including the deployment of ground forces—you cannot win a war,' he remarked. 'Our adversaries currently believe we have 15 different methods to deploy ground forces. And guess what? We do.'
He further noted that if necessary, the U.S. could 'execute these options.'
Alternatively, we might not need to utilise these options at all. Perhaps negotiations will be effective. Or there may be other approaches. The key lies in maintaining unpredictability—without revealing to anyone what you are willing or unwilling to do,' he concluded.
General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, informed reporters at the press conference that the "range of military options" available to the U.S. military is extensive. The decision to send additional troops to the Middle East is not solely about providing options for ground operations; it also carries other implications.
"I don’t want to limit the President’s decision-making space, but there are numerous options. One point that Iran should take note of is that the U.S. military is positioned right there, creating a pressure point. Therefore, they (Iran) should carefully consider the current situation, at least from a diplomatic perspective," he stated.
Hagel is acutely aware of the covert activities of China and Russia.
During the press conference, Hagel remarked, "(The U.S.) adversaries are engaging in actions they shouldn’t be, providing (Iran) with pertinent information and intelligence regarding the deployment of U.S. assets in the Middle East. We have taken note of this, and we will ultimately adjust our deployments."
He further explained, "One of the key principles in the military is to avoid establishing fixed patterns and to refrain from adopting predictable strategies. Consequently, commanders are actively working to adjust these systems in real-time to ensure they are positioned correctly and are not easily targeted for attacks."
When questioned about media reports suggesting that China and Russia are assisting Iran during the conflict, Hagel responded, "Regarding China and Russia, we are fully aware of what they are doing and what they are not doing."
"We don’t need to reveal all the details, but where necessary, we are addressing, mitigating, or directly confronting these challenges," Hagel added, although he did not provide further specifics.
Following the outbreak of the war in Iran, several media outlets reported that U.S. intelligence suggests Russia is supplying Iran with information about the locations and movements of U.S. troops, ships, and aircraft in the Middle East.
On Monday (March 30), senior U.S. intelligence reporter Sasha Ingber disclosed that she had learned from a source familiar with the intelligence that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been providing Iran with the coordinates of U.S. military forces and equipment.
Insiders indicated that the intelligence sharing did not begin immediately with the onset of Operation Epic Fury. They noted that Beijing started sharing intelligence approximately ten days to two weeks after the war began.
The sources also mentioned that the White House is aware of the CCP's intelligence sharing with Iran. In response to a request for comment, White House spokesperson Olivia Wales told Ingber via email, "Any information provided to Iran by other countries does not impact our operational effectiveness."
During a press conference on Tuesday, Secretary of Defence Haig Sesis highlighted the differences in military situations between the U.S. and Iran.
"On the battlefield, thanks to the operational freedom granted to us by President Trump, U.S. firepower is continuously increasing. In contrast, Iran is weakening. Our options are expanding, while theirs are diminishing," he stated.
"The latest intelligence from Central Command is very clear. Our strikes are damaging the morale of the Iranian military, resulting in mass desertions and critical personnel shortages, which is causing frustration among Iran's senior leadership," he added.
