The persecution has backfired in a vague manner, with power being stripped away, leaving him in a position that is merely ceremonial. (Illustration by People News)
[People News] Prominent commentator Jiang Feng shared a wealth of data on the X platform on February 6, highlighting the significant impact of Xi Jinping's purges on the political landscape of the Chinese Communist Party.
In his post, Jiang Feng pointed out: Everyone should pay attention to the real data. As of today, out of the 42 active generals appointed after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, how many are still in their offices and functioning normally at the command centre? Just four! Yes, you heard that right—only four remain: Zhang Shengmin, Dong Jun, Yang Zhibin, and Han Shengyan. What happened to the other 38 generals?
Looking at the current military strength chart, it is full of gaps: the Central Military Commission has seven members, and aside from Xi Jinping himself, only Zhang Shengmin remains—a general focused on arrests rather than military operations—with five positions for vice-chairman and committee members vacant!
Among the commanders and political commissars of the five major military regions, only two are still in office, with eight positions unfilled!
For the commanders and political commissars of the five military branches—Army, Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force, and Armed Police—there has been a total collapse, with ten positions missing!
Moreover, in the next tier of lieutenant generals, many individuals have also gone missing or been dismissed. This represents a complete and devastating purge.
Jiang Feng also noted a peculiar incident.
On January 31 and February 1, the 'People's Liberation Army Daily' published two commentary articles. These articles were authored by the military newspaper itself, rather than being a dispatch from Xinhua News Agency. However, when these articles are compared to the editorial that announced the simultaneous review of Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli nine days prior, a significant gap becomes evident. The most serious and damning accusation—' seriously trampling and undermining the responsibility system of the Chairman of the Central Military Commission'—has inexplicably vanished! It is nowhere to be found!
Additionally, the X user 'Derun Media' remarked on the same day that it appears Xi Jinping is truly finished. A few days ago, many noticed that several major party media outlets had not removed information regarding Zhang Youxia. Upon further confirmation today, it was discovered that CCTV's website has removed Zhang Youxia's name and photo, while Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, and the Chinese government website have yet to do so. If Xi Jinping were still in a position of unchallenged power, these websites would have deleted the information within an hour of his directive. This situation suggests that the Chinese Communist Party has already experienced a public split.
The X user 'New Heights' pointed out that while it is common to arrest first and convict later, this does not apply to Zhang Youxia. The 'procedural bottleneck' in Zhang Youxia's case signifies an unusual challenge to Xi Jinping's authority. Historically, anti-corruption campaigns have often been characterised by 'swift action followed by reports,' but this approach cannot be applied to this figure from the 'red family.' This situation not only reflects a dramatic shift in the military-political landscape but also implies that in the current phase of heightened power struggles, the strategy of 'arrest first and prosecute later' is no longer viable in Zhang Youxia's case. With the military remaining silent, elders watching, second-generation red families holding back, soft resistance within the party, and public opinion overwhelmingly against, these intertwined factors greatly increase the likelihood of a reversal in the case.
So, what lies ahead for Zhang Youxia? We will keep a close watch on the developments. △
