[People News] The renowned 798 Art Museum in Beijing has recently found itself at the centre of public controversy. Netizens, after making comparisons, were alarmed to discover that a pink coat believed to belong to Yu Menglong, along with shoes of Qiao Renliang and Qiu Feng, have been featured as part of the exhibition. Moreover, the displayed human specimens closely resemble Qiao Renliang and Qiu Feng, leading to speculation about whether this is an art exhibition or a crime scene.
In response, the 798 Art Museum simply stated that this is "an internet rumour, do not believe the hearsay," without providing any information about the sources of the exhibits or the artists involved, nor clarifying whether the exhibition had undergone official review. The Beijing police and cultural tourism authorities have also chosen to remain silent, and to date, have not issued any formal statement addressing the public's concerns.
In fact, as early as 1999, two large-scale human processing factories were established simultaneously in Dalian, China. One of these was founded by Gunther von Hagens, the inventor of German biological plastination technology, who created the world's largest "body processing factory"—Gunther von Hagens' Plastination (Dalian) Co., Ltd. Additionally, Dalian Medical University set up Dalian Medical University Biological Plastination Co., Ltd. Reports from local media indicated that the then mayor of Dalian, Bo Xilai, awarded the title of honorary citizen to Dr. Hagens.
The processing technology used in these plastination factories preserves the cellular structure and morphology of the bodies for medical education and exhibitions, but has also sparked controversies regarding the sources of the bodies and ethical considerations.
After Bo Xilai's expulsion from the Party, among all the women associated with him, Zhang Weijie, the host of Dalian's 'Sunshine Rain' program, stands out as the most enigmatic, with her fate still unknown. Many believe she had already become a 'ghost under the knife' of Bo Xilai's wife, Gu Kailai.
The majority of the body specimens displayed by Hagens are of Chinese individuals. Among them is a particularly shocking specimen of a pregnant woman and her fetus. The pregnant woman cannot be a death row inmate; how did they die? Who are their families? This sparked extensive discussion on mainland Chinese social media at the time.
Some speculate that the pregnant woman is Zhang Weijie, Bo Xilai's mistress, who has been missing for years, with claims that 'the shape of the skull resembles Zhang Weijie.' It is rumoured that after Gu Kailai forced Zhang Weijie out of the television station, she caused a scene multiple times at the Dalian city government, leading the jealous Gu Kailai to silence her, all while Zhang Weijie was already pregnant.
The human body exhibition at the 798 Art District has reignited these chilling rumours. An art critic from Peking University noted, 'Contemporary art often challenges societal boundaries, but without transparent information, audiences will inevitably feel fear and suspicion.'
Adding to the eeriness, Li Mu Yang, a self-media journalist who has been following the Yuhong case, received a recent tip from netizens revealing that Yuhong's body is stored in the 'Qihao Art Museum' located in the 798 Art District.
During the program, Li Mu Yang cited revelations from netizens, claiming that Yu Menglong was initially suspected of enduring inhumane treatment and torture in the spa area of the Bulgari Hotel, which left him in a near-death state. He was then transferred to Jiangsu Zhouge Technology Company for further torment, before being moved to the Sunshine Shangdong community to create the false impression of a fall leading to his death. Ultimately, his body was secretly relocated to the cold storage in the basement of the 'Qihua Art Museum' located in the 798 Art District.
Sources with knowledge of the situation indicated that the 798 Art Museum is connected to both the nearby Sunshine Shangdong and the basement of the Bulgari Hotel, raising suspicions of a comprehensive conspiracy involving 'torture-murder-display'.
Multiple netizens reported that on the night of the incident, they heard what seemed to be Yu Menglong's cries for help at the Bulgari Hotel. Several netizens further alleged that in an effort to conceal the truth, the Beijing Bulgari Hotel quickly demolished the room where the incident occurred, and the surveillance footage was 'completely destroyed,' with even hotel staff being instructed to keep quiet.
Notably, shortly before his tragic death, Yu Menglong had posted check-in photos at the 'Qihua Art Museum' in the 798 Art District on the social media platform Xiaohongshu, confirming that he was hosting a personal photography exhibition at that time. The exhibition was originally set to run for five days from September 6 to 11, but was abruptly cancelled the night before the incident, with the artworks being withdrawn and social media posts deleted. Some fans noted that after the photos were removed, there were unusual login records on his account, raising suspicions that Yu Menglong's phone may have been accessed by someone else before and after the incident.
Some netizens have noticed that Yu Menglong's check-in photo appears to have eerily foreshadowed his own fate. The English text on the T-shirt he wore at 798 reads: 'roll down your window and feel how, let's run away the winds have changed.' This translates to: 'roll down the car window, feel it, let’s escape, the wind direction has changed.' Following this, netizens speculated that Yu Menglong might have been hinting at his imminent danger with this phrase. However, in reality, the car window was replaced by a screen window, which left netizens feeling quite emotional. △
