[People News] In the early morning of June 13 local time, Israel launched an airstrike on Iran. The Israeli Air Force targeted dozens of facilities related to Iran’s nuclear program and other military installations. Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, were reportedly killed in the attack.
There’s a notable difference between how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) state media and the rest of the world’s media reported the incident. CCP media coverage mainly focused on Iran’s strong reaction, subtly implying that Iran was the victim and Israel should be held responsible. For example, an article titled “Iranian Armed Forces Issue First Notice: Retaliation Against Israel” quoted Iran saying: “Israel launched aggressive and reckless actions, attacking both civilian and military sites in Iran, causing casualties among women, children, and military personnel… The Iranian General Staff strongly condemns this act of aggression, which violates all international norms.” Another article, “Iran Vows Harsh and Resolute Retaliation Against Israel, Details Being Discussed at the Highest Level”, said Iran was planning a “strong response” to Israel’s assault. State media also cited “expert analysis” and online voices saying Israel’s strike would harm the entire world and have far-reaching effects on the global economy, energy security, and geopolitical order.
But why is the CCP suddenly so “righteously indignant” about a war happening thousands of miles away?
As is well known, this conflict is a continuation of the events of October 7, 2023, when Hamas, an Iranian-backed militant group, launched attacks in southern Israel that killed 1,200 people. In response, Israel invaded Gaza. On April 13 of last year, Hezbollah launched about 40 rockets at northern Israel. That same night, the IRGC, along with the People’s Mobilisation Forces, Hezbollah, and the Houthi rebels, coordinated a massive drone, cruise missile, and ballistic missile attack on Israel and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Thirty-three Israeli civilians were injured in the assault.
According to foreign media, components from Chinese-made drones and missile parts were discovered in the Iranian arsenal used during these attacks. In other words, China has provided weapons support to Iran.
China and Iran have been labelled by some Western officials, experts, and media as two of the “Axis of Evil” countries that continuously create global unrest and instability. The CCP has been leveraging Iran to stir up conflict in the Middle East, thereby distracting the U.S. and Europe from maintaining global stability.
In 2016, CCP leader Xi Jinping visited Iran, and the two nations announced a comprehensive strategic partnership. In March 2021, on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif signed a 25-year comprehensive cooperation agreement in Tehran. This pact covered political, strategic, and economic collaboration.
According to Wikipedia, between 2000 and 2005, China’s exports to Iran increased by 360%, making it the world’s second-largest exporter to Iran. China invested heavily in Tehran. In recent years, China has helped Iran train senior officials in advanced systems, supported its missile development, and supplied special steel for missile production. There are also rumours that China has assisted Iran in building surface-to-air missiles, air-to-air missiles, fighter jets, radar systems, and missile boats. Wikipedia also states that as early as the 1980s, China helped Iran build a research reactor and provided fuel for four additional reactors. China assisted in building a uranium enrichment plant near Isfahan and in resuming construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. A secret nuclear agreement between China and Iran was reportedly signed in 1990, followed by a nuclear cooperation pact in 1992. In 2005, seven Chinese companies were sanctioned by the U.S. for allegedly selling nuclear materials to Iran, but Chinese nuclear experts and technicians continued to work in Iran. In recent years, China and Iran have also conducted multiple joint naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz.
Therefore, it’s clear that behind Iran’s military conflict with Israel is the shadow of the CCP. The party-state media’s mourning and outcry over the death of Iranian military officials in this conflict is hardly surprising. However, as the truth comes to light, the CCP’s self-righteous outrage will be reduced to ashes under Israeli bombardment. △
