Belarus Reveals Information on Peng Liyuan and Xi Mingze s Whereabouts, Potentially Angering Xi Jinping

On November 1, 2024, Xi Jinping met with the newly elected Chief Executive of Macau, Ho Iat Seng, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi did not use the dragon chair or dragon cup, which some interpret as a sign that his power is waning and his attempt at restoring imperial rule has failed. (Video screenshot)

[People News] On June 9, the Belarusian Telegraph Agency reported that Peng Liyuan, the wife of Xi Jinping, and their daughter Xi Mingze attended a dinner hosted by Xi Jinping for Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Lukashenko. Earlier, the agency had reported that Xi hosted a luncheon for Lukashenko but did not mention the attendance of Peng Liyuan and Xi Mingze. Analysts suggest that the leak of Xi Mingze's whereabouts by Belarus, amid rumours of Xi Jinping's diminishing power, could lead to significant displeasure for Xi Jinping.

The Belarusian National News Agency (BelTA) reported on the 9th that First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov disclosed during a Belarusian television program that Peng Liyuan and Xi Mingze were present at the dinner hosted by Xi Jinping for Lukashenko.

Snopkov specifically quoted Xi's remarks during the private portion of the meeting: "My friend, you and I share a special relationship, so today we will hold a family dinner. Historically, this will be the first time my daughter dines with a foreign leader in this manner."

The report also noted that Snopkov posed a rhetorical question: "What kind of relationship and atmosphere do you think this visit, meeting, and dinner occurred in? At that time, his daughter was present, Mrs. Peng Liyuan (Xi Jinping's wife - note from BelTA) was present, and Comrade Xi Jinping himself was also there."

The report did not clarify who posed the question to Snopkov. However, his comments seem to reiterate the presence of both Peng Liyuan and Xi Mingze.

On June 4, the Belarusian news agency reported that Lukashenko met with Xi Jinping at Zhongnanhai. Initially, the two sides will hold a working meeting in the form of a tea gathering, followed by a one-on-one discussion between the two heads of state. A friendly lunch will take place afterwards.'

A video accompanying the Belarusian news agency's report indicated that Lukashenko concluded his three-day visit to China and was expected to leave Beijing during the day.

Observers have noted discrepancies between the Belarusian news agency's earlier report and the details revealed by Snopkov. Analysts believe that as the First Deputy Prime Minister, Snopkov is unlikely to publicly lie. However, the timing of his comments likely reflects considerations from the Belarusian side. Additionally, the video released by the Belarusian news agency and the photos later published by the Chinese Communist Party showed that Peng Liyuan was absent, and there was no sign of Xi Mingze.

Recently, rumours have circulated that Xi Jinping has lost power, with reports suggesting that Zhongnanhai is now under the control of Zhang Youxia and Wen Jiabao, leaving Xi Jinping merely performing a role. Following Xi's unexplained two-week absence, his meeting with Lukashenko at Zhongnanhai on June 2 raised numerous suspicions, leading to speculation that he may have been placed under house arrest.

Earlier leaks indicated that Xi Jinping had voluntarily offered to resign but wished to do so in a dignified manner. He also requested that, in addition to ensuring his personal safety, the safety of his family must be guaranteed, particularly for his sister, brother, and daughter, and that there should be no retaliatory actions against the memorial facilities of his father, Xi Zhongxun. The leaks suggested that Xi's family was satisfied with the arrangements for his dignified exit, including his mother Qi Xin, wife Peng Liyuan, daughter Xi Zeming, and brother Xi Yuanping, all of whom agreed to this plan.

Traditionally, Peng Liyuan, as the First Lady, was expected to attend the family banquet at Zhongnanhai on June 4. However, she surprisingly did not appear before the cameras. Snopkov inadvertently disclosed that both Peng Liyuan and Xi Mingze were present at the banquet, yet both the White News Agency and the official media of the Communist Party of China had previously refrained from mentioning this. Analysts suggest that while it may be understandable to omit Xi Mingze, the concealment of Peng Liyuan, who is usually very visible at public events, indicates that the underlying reasons are quite unusual.

Some analysts speculate that the entire Xi family may be under a form of soft detention at Zhongnanhai. The new central authority, which currently wields real power, has reportedly reached an agreement with Xi Jinping to ensure the safety of his family, leading to the decision not to disclose the presence of Peng Liyuan and Xi Mingze in reports or on camera. Regardless of Xi Jinping's current power status, Snopkov's revelation about Xi Mingze's whereabouts likely struck a sensitive chord with him, provoking significant anger.

Xi Mingze, often referred to by foreign media as the enigmatic 'Chinese princess,' has been kept under wraps since Xi Jinping assumed power, with very few reports about her and no photographs released.

Born on June 27, 1992, Xi Mingze is currently 33 years old. She attended Hangzhou Foreign Language School during her high school years and entered the Foreign Language Institute of Zhejiang University in August 2009, majoring in simultaneous interpretation. After graduating, she continued her education at Harvard University in the United States. Previous reports from American media have indicated that Xi Mingze used a pseudonym to study psychology and English at Harvard, with fewer than ten individuals, limited to close friends and a few faculty members, aware of her true identity.
