[People News] Former Chinese journalist Zhao Lanjian, who was the first to report the arrest of Xi Jinping's close ally and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), He Weidong, has once again revealed explosive information on his social media. He claims that the case involving Miao Hua and He Weidong’s “factional politics” has been circulated throughout the entire military, with shocking charges, marking the start of the most severe military purge.
Confidential CMC Document Circulated Across the Military
On April 17, the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) distributed a confidential internal document to all generals at the rank of Major General and above (including those retired). The document was delivered either by direct viewing or read aloud by CMC leaders. It stated that Miao Hua and He Weidong were involved in forming factions and political cliques, actions which were deemed to have “seriously undermined the CMC Chairman's responsibility system and severely damaged the political environment of the military.” They also attempted to influence personnel arrangements for the 21st Party Congress within the military. Their conduct was characterised as “great treachery masked as loyalty, unforgivable crimes,” and investigations have been launched against both of them and their faction members.
Reportedly, the document consists of two pages, with Miao Hua taking up one and a half pages. The language is extremely harsh and unprecedented in tone.
Zhao Lanjian claims that Miao Hua had initially aimed to replace Xu Qiliang as Vice Chairman of the CMC but failed, and instead heavily pushed for He Weidong’s promotion. After Miao was taken away, Wang Houbin, Wang Xiubin, and Lin Xiangyang panicked and rushed overnight to offer bribes to He Weidong for protection. However, when He Weidong came under investigation, he immediately turned in the “Two Wangs and One Lin.”
The case reportedly involves selling military positions, money-for-power deals, bribery, and moral corruption. Initial investigations reveal that Miao Hua accepted over 100 million yuan in bribes, while He Weidong took over 60 million yuan. The case continues to be thoroughly investigated.
The CMC has reportedly launched a campaign across the entire military involving the so-called “Five Rectifications” and “Four Clarifications,” conducting political screening of every general at the rank of Major General and above (including retirees). “Leaving one’s locality must be reported level by level,” and the purge is said to affect the entire military personnel system. April 17 is considered a watershed moment marking the deepening of the CCP’s political purge in the military.
Xi Jinping “Turns White Overnight”
According to the leaks, Miao Hua mentally collapsed on his first day in detention and spent the night frantically confessing, initially naming over 80 military personnel. Later, with the help of three secretaries, he reportedly disclosed as many as 1,300 military officers, including nearly 100 generals at the rank of Lieutenant General and General. Many of these officers were promoted either directly by Xi Jinping or by his close associates.
Some analysts believe that since Miao Hua was a staunch confidant handpicked and promoted by Xi, he would naturally have knowledge of secrets known only to Xi. Once arrested, Miao clearly understood he had been abandoned by Xi, whether willingly or not. Driven by resentment or a desire to redeem himself, did Miao perhaps also reveal something about Xi Jinping himself?
This may explain the explosive rumour that after hearing Miao Hua’s confessions, Xi Jinping “turned white overnight.”
