October 15, 2024 — The Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) lies are increasingly being exposed: distorting history will ultimately fail, and its dream of hegemony is doomed to destruction!

On September 28 this year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated during the UN General Debate that "UN Resolution 2758 has fully resolved the issue of China’s representation, including Taiwan." He adopted a firm stance, not allowing any country to question this, especially since parliaments in countries like the Netherlands and Australia had passed resolutions recognizing that "the resolution did not determine that the People's Republic of China holds sovereignty over Taiwan, nor does it exclude Taiwan from participating in the UN or other international organizations."

CCP’s Distortion of History through Resolution 2758

On October 25, 1971, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution restoring "all the rights of the People's Republic of China," recognizing its government as the only legitimate representative of China in the UN and expelling the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from "the seats they illegally occupied in the United Nations and all its affiliated organizations." While the resolution restored the PRC’s representation in the UN, it did not address the sovereignty issue concerning Taiwan, nor did it negate the existence of the Republic of China's sovereignty.

However, the PRC used this resolution to falsely claim sovereignty over Taiwan. By doing so, it twisted the meaning of Resolution 2758 into an endorsement of the "One China Principle." To enforce this principle, the CCP used vast sums of money to bribe politicians from Taiwan's allies, offering trade deals and investment projects to garner support for its stance, weakening Taiwan’s international presence.

Besides diplomatic isolation, the CCP has worked to prevent Taiwan from participating in international organizations, particularly the World Health Organization (WHO). The CCP has also obstructed other countries from aiding Taiwan during times of crisis. For example, following natural disasters such as the 921 earthquake or Typhoon Morakot, when Taiwan urgently needed international rescue teams, the CCP blocked foreign aid by insisting that Taiwan was a province of China.

Why Countries are Shifting Their Stance

Before the CCP’s ambitions became clear, many nations did not pay much attention to the connection between Resolution 2758 and the "One China Principle." However, following the COVID-19 pandemic and the widespread use of AI technologies, countries have realized that they can no longer ignore the CCP's claims over Taiwan. This is not only because Taiwan is a key strategic location in the first island chain, but also because it produces 90% of the world’s advanced semiconductors. If the CCP gains full control over Taiwan, it could disrupt global strategic balance.

Thus, the U.S. led the charge. On October 21, Rick Waters, then Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and now General Manager of China Affairs at the Eurasia Group, made a rare public criticism of the CCP at a German Marshall Fund event, accusing it of "abusing" Resolution 2758 to block Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations. Japanese professor Mariko Fukuda of Hosei University also published an article in The Diplomat, pointing out that the "One China" agreements between China and countries like the U.S. and Japan are often nominal and not fully implemented.

While the "One China" policy in these agreements is largely symbolic, it doesn’t negate the CCP’s ambitions over Taiwan and its desire to alter global balance. The CCP's "Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation" aims to take Taiwan as its first step, which would not only symbolically end the Chinese Civil War but also give the CCP control over advanced semiconductor production and strategic dominance in the Western Pacific—drastically altering the post-World War II balance of power and potentially leading to conflict.

Conclusion

As Taiwan’s current president, Lai Ching-te, has stated, the CCP’s desire to seize Taiwan is not solely about reclaiming territory. The real motive is to dismantle the U.S.-led international order and further its ambitions for global dominance, which ties into the "Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation" strategy.

This grand strategy, which seeks to rebuild the old Chinese imperial map, distorts history by claiming that the 75-year-old communist China is the homeland of all Chinese people. To advance this project, Xi Jinping has broken established rules to ensure his lifetime leadership. However, history shows that any regime that pursues hegemony and initiates war is ultimately defeated by the forces of justice. The downfall of the fascist regimes in Europe serves as a warning. Should the CCP launch a war for world domination, it is likely to face not only defeat but also the complete erasure of communist China from the global map.
