On June 28, 2025, Falun Gong practitioners held a rally and parade in Auckland, New Zealand, exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) 26-year-long persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and calling on the international community to join efforts to stop the CCP's crimes against humanity. [People News] As the New Year bell tolls in 2026, numerous regions across China have cancelled their New Year's Eve celebrations, and police presence is heavy in the bustling areas of many cities. What should have been a festive New Year's Eve has instead turned into a scene of alarm, creating a sense of imminent danger. This is because the leaders of the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) are acutely aware that with too many adversaries, 2026 will be a challenging year.
Why will 2026 be challenging?
The answer lies in the ongoing decline of China's economy, the exodus of foreign investment, the closure of businesses, severe unemployment, mounting debts, rampant corruption, persistent internal strife, ongoing external conflicts, struggling officials, and rising public discontent.
Notably, in 2025, a number of high-ranking generals promoted by Xi Jinping fell like dominoes, with reports indicating a "collapse of faith and betrayal of loyalty," and "serious violations of the party's command principle and the accountability of the chairman of the Central Military Commission."
Why has He Weidong, a member of the CCP Politburo and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, who was personally and exceptionally promoted by Xi after a decade of anti-corruption efforts, also become embroiled in serious corruption?
Why have Xi's two key aides in the "political military building" initiative over the past 13 years—Zhang Yang and Miao Hua, the first and second directors of the Political Work Department of the Military Commission—seriously violated "political discipline," with one committing suicide out of guilt and the other ending up imprisoned?
Why have all the first, second, third, and fourth commanders of the Rocket Force, Wei Fenghe, Zhou Yaning, Li Yuchao, and Wang Houbin, who were promoted and reused by Xi, all become serious corrupt officials?
Any Chinese person who genuinely loves China must confront these pressing issues directly, rather than avoiding, covering up, or speaking ambiguously about them.
I believe that the core issue of all the problems currently facing the Communist Party of China is the persecution of Falun Gong, which stands in opposition to the principles of truth, compassion, and tolerance, and is marked by the pervasive presence of falsehood, evil, and conflict.
I. What is Falun Gong?
The Communist Party of China has been persecuting Falun Gong for 27 years, attributing numerous shocking labels to it. This tactic mirrors the political campaigns initiated by Mao Zedong, which were intentionally designed to target individuals.
For instance, in 1955, to discredit the literary critic Hu Feng and others, Mao Zedong designated' a 'Hu Feng counter-revolutionary group.' Mao stated: 'Their core members include either spies from the imperialist Kuomintang, or Trotskyists, or reactionary military officers, or traitors from the Communist Party. These individuals form the backbone of a counter-revolutionary faction hidden within the revolutionary camp, an underground independent kingdom. This counter-revolutionary faction and underground kingdom aim to overthrow the People's Republic of China and restore the rule of the imperialist Kuomintang.'
In 1988, the 'Hu Feng counter-revolutionary group' was fully exonerated. The facts demonstrated that the shocking labels Mao placed on Hu Feng and others were entirely fabricated and imagined by him, proving to be completely false.
Following Jiang Zemin's initiation of the suppression of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, the shocking labels attributed to Falun Gong were also entirely fabricated and imagined by Jiang, and were completely false.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a high-level Buddhist practice that was introduced by Mr Li Hongzhi on May 13, 1992, in Changchun City, Northeast China. Its remarkable effectiveness in curing illnesses and improving health led to its rapid spread across 32 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China, as well as to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and many countries and regions worldwide.
Guided by the fundamental principles of the universe—"Truth, Compassion, Forbearance"—Falun Gong emphasises "cultivation" as the primary focus and "refinement" as secondary. "Cultivation" involves being a good person according to these principles, striving to become a better individual, and ultimately achieving a state of selflessness where one prioritises others over oneself. "Refinement" consists of practising five sets of simple and easy-to-learn exercises, which include four sets of moving exercises and one set of stationary exercises.
Mr Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, has consistently stressed that "cultivation is not politics" (1).
Since its inception, Falun Gong has never engaged in political activities. If the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had not persecuted Falun Gong, there would be no issue of Falun Gong opposing the CCP's persecution. The CCP's campaign to "eradicate Falun Gong" prompted practitioners to speak out and resist the persecution.
This is not a matter of political involvement, but rather a defence of the freedom of belief. If you intend to harm me and I remain silent, how can that be justified? This also contradicts the principle of "Truth" in "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance." Falun Gong practitioners have consistently spoken the truth and opposed persecution in accordance with these principles, and they have always acted peacefully, rationally, and kindly towards others. What is wrong with that?
Falun Gong welcomes everyone around the world, regardless of their political affiliation, nationality, ethnicity, wealth, occupation, education, qualifications, cultural background, or religious beliefs. Anyone who wishes to learn is welcome to do so.
All writings that guide the practice of Falun Gong, including 'Zhuan Falun', instructional recordings, and lecture materials, can be freely read, viewed, and downloaded from the Minghui website.
Falun Gong does not impose any commands; all genuine practitioners choose to cultivate Falun Gong of their own accord.
II. Why is the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) wrong?
The CCP has provided numerous justifications for its persecution of Falun Gong, claiming various negative aspects about it; they even staged the 'Tiananmen self-immolation incident' to falsely implicate Falun Gong, aiming to incite hatred against it in order to achieve the goal of 'eradicating Falun Gong'.
The core reason for the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong is the assertion that it poses political problems, is politically dangerous, and that practitioners of Falun Gong are politically unreliable. Allowing the Chinese populace to practice Falun Gong would supposedly lead to significant political turmoil. This reflects a 'political fantasy' or even 'political delusion', similar to Mao Zedong's treatment of Hu Feng.
As an example, consider a pilot who practices Falun Gong.
After the CCP initiated its persecution of Falun Gong, pilots who practiced were absolutely prohibited from continuing their roles, as they were deemed politically unreliable. This 'political fantasy' or 'political delusion' is underpinned by a host of issues.
In China, there is a pilot named Zhang Guoliang who practices Falun Gong. He began his practice in 1996 and graduated from the Civil Aviation Flight University of China in 1997. After graduation, he was assigned to Southern Airlines, where he flew for over two years until July 20, 1999, demonstrating excellent performance.
Following the onset of the persecution, his commitment to the principles of 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance' led to the confiscation of his pilot's license, passport, boarding pass, and work ID. His flying qualifications were revoked, preventing him from flying again.
From July 20, 1999, he was subjected to 18 months of illegal re-education through labour, seven months in a brainwashing class, and a four-year prison sentence. During the remaining time, he was under constant surveillance by the Chinese Communist Party. Consequently, he endured 11 years in a high-pressure and terror-filled environment, working as a labourer and laundry worker, suffering torture, and experiencing a sense of 'better dead than alive'.
In 2010, with the help of friends, he escaped to Thailand, where he lived for four years. In 2013, with assistance from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, he settled in the United States.
By this time, he had not flown a plane for 14 years. As a Falun Gong practitioner, he diligently followed the teachings of Master Li Hongzhi, striving to embody 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance' in all aspects of his life. He first overcame the language barrier, then the technical challenges, starting with small aircraft, progressing to medium-sized planes, and eventually flying large aircraft. Today, he serves as a captain at Trans States Airlines, frequently operating flights across North America, South America, and occasionally to Europe.
The U.S. government, law enforcement, aviation schools, and airlines have not discriminated against him or caused him any issues due to his practice of Falun Gong. On the contrary, they have shown him significant trust, support, and assistance.
Americans have never been concerned that he might make 'politically incorrect' decisions while flying because of his practice of Falun Gong.
Why is it that people in the U.S. have no worries about him flying, while the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is extremely anxious?
This is because the CCP's perspective on Falun Gong is based on unfounded fantasies and fabrications; it is simply false.
For the U.S. government, the requirements for pilots encompass physical, psychological, technical, and moral standards. If you are a practitioner of Falun Gong and can meet these criteria, they will allow you will be allowed to fly. The evidence shows that the U.S. government is entirely correct in this approach.
The core principles of Falun Gong are 'Truth, Compassion, Forbearance.' These principles are not only traditional values that humanity has cherished for thousands of years but also universal values that apply to everyone, regardless of age or gender, around the world. Throughout history, in any country or region, being a good person according to 'Truth, Compassion, Forbearance' is always right.
I began my practice of Falun Gong on May 3, 1995, and I have been practising for 31 years—20 years in China and 11 years in the U.S. I believe I have a valid perspective on the issue of Falun Gong.
Together with millions of genuine Falun Gong practitioners worldwide, I have personally experienced that Falun Dafa brings immense benefits to both the nation and its people, with no harm involved.
What is the most significant issue facing the CCP today? It is the corruption that intensifies the more it is opposed.
During my time working in the Supervision Department of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), both the CCDI leadership and the central authorities consistently emphasised the need for party members and leading officials to manage their relationships with power, money, beauty, and family ties responsibly, and to avoid corruption. These messages were repeated year after year, month after month, in both large and small meetings. What was the outcome? Corrupt officials continued their corrupt practices without restraint.
After I began practising Falun Gong, I committed myself to the principles of 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance' and quickly became aware of my own integrity: I did not covet even a penny of wealth; I did not indulge in lust; I did not seek power or status, nor did I engage in favouritism or backdoor dealings. As a result, I gained the trust of the leaders in the CCDI's Supervision Department.
Following the onset of the persecution on July 20, 1999, a special investigation team conducted an internal and external inquiry into my activities for four and a half months, totalling 135 days. They found no economic issues involving even a penny, no violations of discipline or law in my work, and no inappropriate relationships with the opposite sex. The only issue they identified was a letter I wrote to Jiang Zemin on May 7, 1999, titled 'Falun Dafa Benefits the Country and the People with No Harm,' in which I conveyed the truth about Falun Gong to him.
In the Falun Gong community, there are many individuals who are not greedy for wealth, do not indulge in lust, do not take advantage of public resources, and are indifferent to fame and fortune, maintaining a high standard of integrity and self-discipline.
If the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had not persecuted Falun Gong and allowed the Chinese people to practice it freely and to live by the principles of 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance,' would the CCP's corruption problem have escalated to such a serious level today?
Since July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has utilised all state resources to launch a persecution against Falun Gong, which has now persisted for 27 years. Rather than being eradicated, Falun Gong has instead expanded its reach to 156 countries and regions worldwide.
In 2006, a group of Falun Gong practitioners with artistic talents, led by Mr Li Hongzhi, founded Shen Yun Performing Arts in New York. This initiative began entirely from scratch, with no prior resources. In just 20 years, Shen Yun has expanded from a single troupe to eight, becoming the fastest-growing arts organisation in the United States and globally, earning the title of the 'number one show in the world.'
The elegance, purity, youthful energy, and artistic skill exhibited by the Shen Yun artists who practice Falun Gong, along with the beauty of its music, dance, backdrops, costumes, colors, concepts, and the harmonious beauty between heaven, earth, and humanity, have profoundly touched mainstream audiences from various countries, including some of the world's top artists.
Why has the CCP been unable to eliminate Falun Gong despite its national efforts? What accounts for the tenacious and vibrant life force of Falun Gong? Why are there practitioners of Falun Gong in the homelands of Laozi, Confucius, Shakyamuni, Jesus, Socrates, and other regions that have produced various saints and sages?
This is because Falun Dafa is a righteous path that is rarely encountered in a millennium, a great way of high virtue, and a magnificent Buddhist teaching.
III. What are the consequences of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong?
The core principles of Falun Gong are "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance." Over the past 27 years, the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong has been characterised by "Falsehood, Evil, and Struggle" in its thoughts, words, and actions.
The primary method used by the CCP to persecute Falun Gong is coercive orders. Those who refuse to abandon their belief in "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance" face expulsion from the Party, removal from public office, withholding of salaries, bonuses, and pensions, as well as arrest, detention, sentencing, torture, and even live organ harvesting.
In summary, the CCP employs a range of political, economic, and psychological threats and coercive measures, linking them to the bonuses, promotions, and benefits of officials from various agencies, including the 610 Office, public security, prosecution, law, and judicial bodies. This strategy aims to tarnish the reputation of Falun Gong practitioners, cut off their economic resources, physically harm them, and even take their lives if necessary.
When evaluated against common sense and conscience, none of these actions can be deemed justifiable; they are all steeped in falsehood, evil, and struggle.
The CCP's 27-year persecution of Falun Gong represents a widespread campaign of "Falsehood, Evil, and Struggle" across China and the world. What are the severe consequences of this prolonged campaign?
There are three main consequences: first, the degradation of moral values; second, the destruction of legal order; and third, the poisoning of public sentiment.
The most concrete, realistic, and direct manifestations of the situation can be summarized in four points: First, the hard-earned money of tens of millions, even hundreds of millions of taxpayers is being used to persecute innocent people; second, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has transformed into a marketplace for the exchange of power, money, and sex, with its corruption flowing uncontrollably like a flood after a dam has burst; third, internal conflicts within the CCP are becoming increasingly sharp and intense, leaving no high-ranking officials in the party, government, or military, including Xi Jinping, safe; fourth, various natural and man-made disasters are occurring continuously.
IV. Ending the persecution of Falun Gong is crucial for China to overcome its challenges by 2026.
China faces a multitude of complex issues, but by focusing on the key issue of 'ending the persecution of Falun Gong,' all other problems can be resolved with relative ease.
Falun Gong does not demand much: first, books should be available for purchase in bookstores; second, practitioners should be allowed to practice in parks; third, they should be permitted to legally hold Fa conferences and other activities to promote their teachings. Is it difficult to achieve these three points? It is quite easy to accomplish.
The only obstacle to 'ending the persecution of Falun Gong' stems from the 'blood debt gang' led by Jiang Zemin and Zeng Qinghong, which has formed over the 27 years of persecution.
Addressing this issue is not particularly challenging either. Jiang Zemin has already passed away, and over the past 27 years, many key members of the 'blood debt gang,' such as former Politburo Standing Committee member and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission Zhou Yongkang, former Politburo member and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xu Caihou, and Guo Boxiong, have faced various forms of retribution. The remaining few are only a small number of extremely heinous individuals like Zeng Qinghong.
Bringing these few extremely heinous members of the 'blood debt gang' to justice is also not operationally difficult.
Regarding others who have committed crimes due to the persecution of Falun Gong, the principles of Falun Dafa have their own criteria for judgment, and they will inevitably face elimination during various natural disasters.
Conclusion
The aim of Falun Gong's global spread is to save people, not to harm them. This is why, throughout the 27 years of persecution by the Chinese Communist Party, Falun Gong practitioners have consistently conveyed the truth and opposed the nature of the persecution with profound sincerity, compassion, and tolerance.
In the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West," the Tang monk once remarked: "Life is difficult to obtain, being born in the Middle Kingdom is rare, and encountering the righteous law is challenging; among these three, there is no greater fortune."
For contemporary Chinese people, we are indeed fortunate to be living in a time that embodies "all three of these blessings." It is hoped that the enlightened individuals among today's Chinese leaders will choose to embrace goodness.
