[People News] According to reports, chaos is now rampant in Zhongnanhai, Xi Jinping's power has collapsed, he is seriously ill, and even his close allies have turned against him. Independent media sources claim that Chen Min'er, Secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and a core member of Xi Jinping’s inner circle known as the “New Zhijiang Army,” has defected and reported Xi’s plot to former Premier Wen Jiabao. The report claims Xi Jinping had drawn up a list of 15 senior party elders before the 20th Party Congress and deployed security personnel at the venue to arrest them on the spot if they caused any disturbance.
Economist and independent media figure Su Xiaohe recently revealed that Chen Min'er actively distanced himself from Xi and reported to Wen Jiabao about Xi’s plan to stage a political coup during the 20th Party Congress. According to Chen, Xi compiled a list of 15 elders who opposed him or had clashed with him in the past. Xi arranged for security forces and plainclothes officers at the venue and deployed General Zhang Youxia with military forces outside the site. If any disturbances occurred during the meeting, those involved would be immediately subdued and removed from the venue. Xi’s faction believed that these 15 elders might openly protest or shout slogans during the event.
The leak claims that the reason no major incident occurred during the 20th Party Congress was that Zhang Youxia secretly informed some party elders in advance. Zhang allegedly warned them: “If anything happens during the session, don't react—there's no need to make a scene. A wise man doesn’t fight a losing battle.”
Su Xiaohe stated that only Hu Jintao attempted to speak up after discovering the final list of Politburo Standing Committee and Central Committee members differed from previous drafts. He was immediately and forcibly removed from the venue. Su believes that the other party elders may have been tipped off in advance, which is why they remained silent.
Why did Chen Min'er report on Xi?
Allegedly, during the planning of the purge, Xi’s faction marked Hu Jintao as their top threat. Xi feared that Hu, who had a microphone in front of him, could incite others to stand and speak in protest, leading to collective arrests. When Chen Min'er expressed, “Secretary Jintao has treated us well,” Xi turned on him. Originally, Chen Min'er was on the shortlist for the new Politburo Standing Committee, but he was suddenly removed, and Li Xi took his place.
On October 22, 2022, the scene of Hu Jintao being forcibly removed from the 20th Party Congress shocked the world.
Reports suggest that on the morning of the closing ceremony, Hu Jintao learned that the number of Politburo members was 24—one fewer than before. The missing member was likely Hu Chunhua, whom Hu Jintao had groomed as a successor. When Hu tried to open a red folder containing the Politburo list to confirm if Hu Chunhua had indeed been excluded, Li Zhanshu, sitting beside him, immediately stopped him.
When Li Zhanshu noticed that Hu Jintao was trying to look through the documents on the table, he immediately reached out to press down on the papers to prevent him from reading them. He then said a few words to Hu Jintao. According to lip-reading experts, Li most likely said at the time, "Don’t look—everything has already been decided."
Recently, it has been reported that on May 14, the CCP held an expanded Politburo meeting at which many senior figures openly criticized Xi. Several of them referred to the humiliation of Hu Jintao during the 20th Congress.
Wen Jiabao reportedly said with grief and anger that he had wanted to stand up and leave with Hu Jintao at the time, but remained seated to avoid making China a laughingstock on the international stage.
Wang Yang also expressed deep regret at the meeting for failing to act during Hu Jintao’s forced removal. He said he wept at home afterwards with his elderly mother.
Hu Chunhua reportedly said that he shed tears at the time upon witnessing his mentor being so humiliated.
Zhang Youxia also apologised at the meeting, saying he regretted helping Xi Jinping secure a third term and accused Xi of illegally extending his tenure.
Commentators have observed that Xi had become so powerful that during the 20th Congress, when a shocking scene of global proportions unfolded, the vast majority of high-ranking officials he had promoted sat frozen like zombies, not daring to show the slightest sympathy when former President Hu Jintao was publicly humiliated and removed. The Wall Street Journal conducted a frame-by-frame analysis of the footage and concluded that Hu’s removal was orchestrated at Xi Jinping’s direction.
Prior to the 20th Party Congress, then-Chongqing Party Secretary Chen Min'er was considered a top candidate for the Politburo Standing Committee. He was widely regarded as a key figure in Xi’s inner circle and a personal favorite. During Xi’s tenure as Zhejiang Party Secretary in the early 2000s, Chen was in charge of propaganda and helped craft Xi’s public image. He also oversaw Xi’s column in Zhejiang Daily.
Analysts had predicted that Xi would promote Chen to the Standing Committee. However, the final list released on October 23 included Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Li Xi, and Ding Xuexiang. Chen Min'er was left out.
