[People News] On January 20, U.S. President Donald Trump delivered his inaugural address as the 47th President of the United States, making a bold declaration: "America's golden era begins today. From this day forward, our nation will prosper and once again be respected around the world. Every nation will admire us, and we will no longer allow ourselves to be taken advantage of." He further emphasized, "Our top priority will be to build a proud, prosperous, and free country. America will soon be greater, stronger, and more exceptional than ever before."

In his 30-minute speech, Trump focused on his "America First" policy and his vision to "Make America Great Again." He criticized the disasters and dilemmas caused by leftist policies, pointing to the government's trust deficit, an education system teaching children to hate their country, massive spending to protect illegal immigrants while failing to provide basic services during wildfires in Los Angeles, and the fact that some of the wealthiest and most powerful Americans are left homeless. Trump vowed, "Starting today, all of this will change—and it will change very quickly."

Trump made several promises to revitalize America, including ending illegal immigration immediately, restoring the country as a manufacturing powerhouse, initiating a "common sense revolution," reforming the trade system, prohibiting the infiltration of radical political ideologies into the military, and reclaiming control of the Panama Canal. He concluded his speech with confident determination, stating, "The future belongs to us. Our golden era has just begun."

Trump's inaugural speech was met with enthusiasm across the United States and around the world, even receiving largely positive coverage from left-wing media. However, Trump’s strong return has left the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) feeling uneasy. His policies, such as tariffs targeting the CCP and his unpredictable strategies toward China, resemble the "Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle" of geopolitics—his use of both carrot and stick keeps Beijing guessing. While TikTok has received a temporary reprieve, the issue of regaining control of the Panama Canal is becoming increasingly urgent, leaving the CCP and Xi Jinping feeling deeply unsettled by Trump's moves.

Initially, Trump invited Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration, leaving Xi anxious and indecisive. Ultimately, Xi sent Han Zheng, a Vice President of China, as a response to Trump’s olive branch. On January 19, Han met with U.S. tech magnate Elon Musk and later had discussions with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. The CCP felt a sense of satisfaction, with Xinhua News Agency boasting about the interactions, suggesting America still valued China.

However, the atmosphere at Trump’s inauguration painted a different picture, leaving the CCP in an awkward position. State media collectively fell silent. At the event, Han Zheng and Chinese Ambassador to the U.S., Xie Feng, stood rigidly at the edge of the crowd, with Han positioned against a wall. Nearby stood staunch anti-communist leaders like Argentina’s President Javier Milei and Italy’s right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. While others engaged in warm exchanges, Han and Xie appeared isolated and ignored. If Xi Jinping had attended, he might have secretly felt relieved not to endure such a public snub himself. Otherwise, being personally sidelined would have been a significant embarrassment, especially if such scenes were shared on Chinese social platforms like Xiaohongshu, potentially sparking outrage among nationalist youth.

But the awkwardness didn’t stop there. Trump’s stirring speech electrified the audience, drawing repeated thunderous applause and cheers. For Han and the CCP, each round of applause was a fresh sting.

Trump proclaimed, “There is a reason my life was spared—I was saved by God to make America great again.” He swore his oath on the Bible alongside the Chief Justice and concluded his speech with a prayer, “God bless America.” The CCP, an avowed atheist regime, fundamentally opposes both heaven and divinity. Its members are loyal Marxist-Leninists, who famously declare they will meet Karl Marx after death. As a representative of the CCP, Han Zheng, standing humbly in a corner and listening to the American president praise God, must have found the scene both ironic and humiliating. The spectacle of these once-arrogant Communist officials reduced to mere bystanders was a sharp contrast to their usual displays of power.

When Trump addressed the Panama Canal, he directly criticized the CCP, stating: "American ships are being overcharged exorbitantly and denied fair treatment, including our Navy. Most importantly, China is running the Panama Canal. We never handed it over to China—we gave it to Panama. Now we will take it back."

Han Zheng and Xie Feng made no protest. Xinhua News Agency toned down its anti-American rhetoric, no longer harping on U.S. hegemony. Instead, it highlighted a statement from Panama’s president on social media opposing Trump’s stance on the canal. What Xinhua omitted, however, was that the Panamanian president had already ordered an audit of Chinese companies operating at the canal’s ports. It seems the CCP’s resistance to Trump’s resolve on the canal is futile.

In his speech, Trump mentioned plans to establish an external tax authority to impose tariffs and taxes on foreign nations. However, he did not specifically announce new tariffs on China. On his first day in office, he refrained from declaring any such measures and delayed the TikTok ban for 75 days. This led the CCP to assess Trump’s China policy as moderate, not as tough as previously anticipated. Consequently, the Chinese yuan surged to its highest level this year, with the offshore yuan-to-dollar exchange rate breaking the 7.3 barrier, briefly reaching 7.25. It later fluctuated between 7.27 and 7.28. As of today, the yuan’s central parity rate stands at 7.1703, the highest since November 8 of last year.

But is this assessment accurate? It is merely the CCP’s wishful thinking. In his inaugural address, Trump referenced President William McKinley, who used tariffs and strategic acumen to make the United States very prosperous. McKinley implemented the McKinley Tariff Act and pursued an expansionist foreign policy, bringing Hawaii under U.S. sovereignty. Trump also emphasized that the United States had triumphed in two world wars, defeated fascism and communism, and overcome every challenge it faced.

Shi Yinhong, a professor at the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China, commented in an interview with CNA: "‘Every nation will admire us, and we will no longer allow ourselves to be taken advantage of’ are the most critical and impactful lines from Trump’s speech." Although Trump did not explicitly mention China in the context of tariffs, Shi noted that imposing high tariffs on Chinese goods is inevitable under Trump’s administration and could happen very soon. He added that TikTok is already "hanging by a thread, waiting for the stool to be kicked out from under it."

Among Trump’s nearly 100 executive orders on his first day in office, many were related to the CCP, including withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization—both institutions that the CCP had leveraged for its global agenda.

Under Trump’s leadership, the next four years are poised to be a renaissance for America. A recent Time magazine cover featured Trump seated resolutely at the Resolute Desk with the caption: “America Is Back,” symbolizing the unstoppable resurgence of American strength.

Meanwhile, the CCP faces internal strife in Zhongnanhai, Xi Jinping’s authority is eroding, and morale in the military is faltering. The Chinese economy remains in decline, entering a deflationary cycle with mounting local government debt, a collapsing real estate sector, rising unemployment, and an exhausted toolbox of economic policies. Failed stimulus measures and increasing social unrest reflect a populace yearning for change, while officials adopt a “lie flat” mentality. The CCP has entered the dustbin of history. In the face of a resurgent America, the outcome of the U.S.-China contest is all but certain.
