People News - Recent reports indicate a worsening outbreak of infections in mainland China, with hospitals overwhelmed and the number of cases climbing rapidly. A doctor in Jiangsu province has revealed the emergence of an unidentified virus in their hospital, stating its mortality rate is much higher than that of COVID-19. The hospital has reportedly escalated the matter to higher authorities.
On December 27, a doctor from Jiangsu posted on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, claiming that their hospital had encountered a mysterious new virus. The patients infected were suffering from pneumonia and respiratory failure. The virus, while less transmissible than COVID-19, was said to have a much higher fatality rate.
The doctor shared that of the 30 patients in their care, six had already died, and three more were critically ill and unlikely to survive.
“The hospital director seems to have reported it. When will this end?” the doctor lamented.
A medical professional analyzing the shared images commented, “The blood pressure readings are generally low, while the heart rates, though not exceeding 100 bpm, are in the 90s. This suggests that after infection, the heart rate increases, but the blood pressure fails to compensate, signaling severe health deterioration. Back in late 2022, high fevers, significantly elevated heart rates (above 150 bpm), and corresponding spikes in blood pressure indicated relatively healthy immune responses. Two years later, the greater deviation in heart rate and blood pressure values reflects weakened health. It’s common knowledge that low blood pressure is hard to correct.”
A Shanghai-based commenter observed, “This is likely the result of prolonged low-grade fevers followed by sudden high fevers, which aligns with COVID-19’s abrupt nature.”
Many commenters inquired, “So, is this fatal virus just the flu? The doctor can’t even identify what virus is causing this. What is going on?”
Reports suggest that new variants might be emerging in cities like Beijing. Social media videos show overcrowded pediatric hospitals with children experiencing symptoms such as fever and coughing. Numerous accounts describe widespread infections, with hospital beds filled to capacity. The surge isn’t limited to pediatrics—adult wards are also overwhelmed, with young, elderly, and middle-aged individuals exhibiting fever symptoms.
Residents in Tianjin, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Liaoning, Hebei, Anhui, and other provinces report symptoms such as dizziness, fluctuating body temperatures, nasal discharge, coughing, sore throats, and extreme fatigue.
The Chinese authorities, however, maintain that these are merely cases of “influenza” or “human metapneumovirus,” and insist there is no evidence of a new strain. Many citizens remain skeptical of these claims.
Recent surveillance data from the Chinese CDC shows a fluctuating upward trend in positive cases of human metapneumovirus among individuals aged 14 and under.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Chinese government has consistently been accused of concealing the true situation, with its official narratives and statistics often met with widespread skepticism both domestically and internationally.
