The CCP has constructed the Great Firewall, obstructing citizens from accessing truthful information from overseas. (Dajiyuan composite image)
[People News] The CPC restricts Western media from entering China and prevents Chinese citizens from accessing foreign websites. This is because the CPC understands that the truth can dismantle its lies, freeing individuals from the ideological grip of communism and allowing them to develop independent thought and moral judgment. Ironically, the CPC takes advantage of the freedoms in Western nations to openly spread the toxic ideology of communism, attempting to brainwash Western audiences. Recently, the CPC's Ministry of Defence opened an account on the X platform, but it was met with a fierce backlash from netizens, who demanded it 'return to Weibo.'
On December 8, the Ministry of Defence launched its official account on X, posting an initial message in English that read 'Witness history, we are here,' along with videos related to the CPC military. The post claimed that they would share 'stories' from the People's Liberation Army.
However, Western users, typically mindful of civility, unleashed a torrent of harsh comments, telling the Ministry of Defence to 'go back to Weibo.' This reaction has ignited a heated debate on the mainland Douyin platform, with Chinese netizens, confined by the Great Firewall, expressing their frustration and asking: 'What is X, and why can't we find it?'
In the comment section, one post garnered 1,600 likes, stating: "Leave our X and go back to your Weibo. You don’t allow Chinese citizens to use this platform, so you and your propaganda can get lost here. (You don’t allow Chinese citizens to use this platform, so to hell with you and your propaganda.)"
The comment section is also filled with many hostile messages in simplified Chinese, such as "Why can you bypass the Great Firewall?" "The Chinese military can also bypass the Great Firewall! The Rocket Force seems to be cleaning up quite diligently!" "Can official accounts go back behind the wall? There’s no delete comment button here, Taiwan independence, go Japan!", and "Down with the Communist Party."
Some netizens, aware that the Chinese Communist Party fears discussions about Yu Menglong and the June Fourth incident, deliberately comment: "When will the Yu Menglong case be investigated? Why am I always silenced inside the wall?", and "How many citizens and students did the People's Liberation Army kill on June 4th?"
Other users mockingly remark: "You (the Communist Party) must be very disappointed, right? Why can’t comments be deleted here and why can’t we find out where the commenters are from?", and "I expected there to be dissenters in the comment section, but I didn’t expect so many..."
On the Douyin platform, netizens are leaving comments like: "How does the official bypass the Great Firewall? Is it stable? Please recommend it, and "What app is X? Why can’t I find it in the app store or Baidu? Where is it posted? I want to go help out."
Interestingly, this is not the first instance of netizens outside of China collaborating to satirise the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on social media platforms. On October 21, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the CCP launched a Facebook account titled 'Spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.' On its very first day, the comment section was inundated with numerous Taiwanese netizens demanding clarification on 'how Yu Menglong died' and 'has Yu Menglong been officially registered?' Many others echoed these inquiries, questioning why officials can bypass the Great Firewall while the public is prohibited from doing so.
In recent years, a growing number of official CCP agencies have established accounts on Western social media platforms. This development is perceived by observers as a strategy for the CCP to bolster its cross-border influence and external propaganda efforts, which have already drawn the attention of various Western governments.△
