The persecution has led to a backlash, resulting in a loss of power, and those in high positions are merely playing supporting roles. (Illustration by People News)
[People News] On November 17, 2025, the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death in absentia for crimes against humanity. She was found guilty of ordering the use of lethal force against student protesters during the summer of 2024, which led to the deaths of at least hundreds, with the United Nations estimating the toll could be as high as 1,400.
This case is not a typical criminal trial; it represents a classic example of a 'victor's trial,' where the new regime swiftly and severely punishes the former rulers. Hasina is currently in hiding in India, and the chances of the sentence being executed are nearly nonexistent. However, the symbolic implications are significant—autocrats often face dire consequences once they lose power. So, what should happen to Xi Jinping when his time comes?
If the Chinese Communist Party were to collapse one day, Xi Jinping would likely become one of the defendants in history with the longest list of charges and the highest number of victims. His alleged crimes are not mere conspiracy theories; they are supported by preliminary evidence from the United Nations, human rights organisations, international courts, numerous leaked documents, victim testimonies, and satellite imagery. Below is a partial list of verifiable crimes, which would be enough to send him to the gallows multiple times:
1. Genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang (2017 to present)
The August 2022 report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights explicitly stated that China's policies in Xinjiang "may constitute crimes against humanity." More than one million Uyghurs have been detained in concentration camps, where they face forced sterilisation, rape, torture, forced labour, the destruction of mosques, and separation from their children. In 2024, the United States Department of State, the UK Parliament, the Canadian Parliament, and several other nations officially classified these actions as "genocide." Satellite imagery reveals that the area of the Xinjiang concentration camps is several times larger than Manhattan Island; this is not a "vocational education centre"; it is the Auschwitz of the 21st century.
2. Treason and Crimes Against Humanity in Hong Kong (2020 National Security Law)
In a single night, 5 million residents of Hong Kong were thrust behind an iron curtain of totalitarianism. Following the implementation of the National Security Law, 47 pro-democracy activists received collective sentences of 10 years in prison, the Apple Daily was shut down, and millions were forced into exile, with Jimmy Lai (Li Zhiying) still imprisoned in an underground water cell. After the enactment of Article 23 in 2024, even criticism from abroad could lead to a life sentence. This represents a blatant breach of contract and a murder of the city.
3. The deliberate concealment in the early stages of COVID-19 that led to a global pandemic (December 2019 - January 2020)
Dr Li Wenliang faced reprimand for sounding the alarm, while eight doctors were arrested for 'spreading rumours'. The team led by Shi Zhengli at the Wuhan Institute of Virology deleted crucial data and fled, and the Chinese government exerted pressure on the WHO to deny claims of 'human-to-human' transmission for several weeks. The outcome: over 7 million deaths worldwide (according to official figures), with the actual toll likely several times higher. A declassified report from U.S. intelligence agencies in 2023, along with evidence presented by Australian journalist Sharri Markson in her 2024 book 'Wuhan', leads to the same conclusion—this represents the largest cover-up killing in human history.
4. The 709 Crackdown and the Extinction of the National Rights Defence Lawyer System (2015 to Present)
Over 300 rights defence lawyers, citizen journalists, and NGO workers were arrested in a single operation, with many subjected to beatings, forced confessions, and injections of psychiatric drugs. Individuals such as Wang Quanzhang, Yu Wensheng, Xu Zhiyong, and Ding Jiaxi remain missing to this day. This is not merely a suppression; it constitutes an extrajudicial execution of the entire civil society.
5. The Bloody Suppression of the White Paper Movement (November 2022)
Following the Urumqi fire, youth across the nation protested lockdowns by holding up blank sheets of paper, resulting in hundreds of arrests in cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Chengdu. Many female university students faced sexual assault and torture. A significant number of 'White Paper Youth' are still imprisoned or missing. The most outstanding young people of this generation have been sent to prison by their own hands.
6. Constitutional Amendments to Claim the Throne, Personal Worship Reaching North Korean Levels
In 2018, a constitutional amendment removed the presidential term limits. By 2022, the 20th National Congress had purged dissenters. Following 2023, 'Xi Jinping Thought' was integrated into the constitution, educational materials, and primary and secondary school textbooks, compelling the entire party to accept the notion that 'disloyalty is absolute disloyalty.' This exemplifies a typical fascist personal dictatorship.
7. Wolf Warrior Diplomacy and Military Expansion Threaten Peace in the Taiwan Strait
The militarisation of illegal islands in the South China Sea, the daily incursion of hundreds of military aircraft into Taiwan's air defence identification zone, and the use of water cannons, ramming, and laser blinding against Philippine vessels in 2024 are not acts of defence; they are blatant preparations for aggression. Should war erupt in the Taiwan Strait, casualties could reach millions.
The historical pattern is unmistakable:
Ceaușescu (Romania) was executed,
Gaddafi (Libya) was killed by stabbing,
Saddam (Iraq) was hanged,
Mubarak (Egypt) died in prison,
Park Geun-hye (South Korea) may not be dead, but she has been disgraced.
Hasina was sentenced to death today; tomorrow could very well be Xi Jinping's turn.
The distinction is that Hasina was sentenced for the deaths of 1,400 people, while the victims created by Xi Jinping number in the tens of millions—over a million in Xinjiang, millions in Hong Kong deprived of freedom, 7 million globally due to COVID, missing persons from the White Paper Movement, and tens of thousands of petitioners intercepted and sent to black jails each year...
If that day ever arrives, the list of crimes presented in court will not be a mere A4 sheet but a substantial volume titled 'The Crimes of Xi Jinping.'
At that point, the judge will only need to ask one question:
'Defendant Xi Jinping, do you plead guilty?' and the entire world will respond with the same answer:
Death penalty, to be executed immediately.
