[People News] To all officials of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission: Greetings!
October 6 is the Mid-Autumn Festival — a traditional holiday celebrated by Chinese people around the world, symbolizing family reunion and happiness.
One can imagine the scene in days past: in the golden autumn, a bright full moon hanging high, its silver light spilling across the land. Beneath the warm glow of countless lamps, families gathered — men and women, young and old — sipping tea, eating mooncakes, admiring the moon in harmony and peace, a picture as beautiful as a dream.
However, in the 26th Mid-Autumn Festival since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong, many practitioners — whether in mainland China or overseas — cannot enjoy reunion simply because they believe in “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.”
Today, I read a story that deeply moved me — about how the CCP, using high-pressure tactics, forced a husband to divorce his wife simply because she practiced Falun Gong.
The husband recalled:
“Before my wife practiced Falun Gong, I wasn’t a good husband. I didn’t like housework, didn’t know how to care for others, had a bad temper, and often quarreled with her over trivial things. I couldn’t handle family relationships well, often causing conflicts between my mother and wife. Though we hadn’t divorced, our marriage was hollow — the warmth of family was gone. Honestly, I was just muddling through life.”
But after his wife began practicing Falun Gong, everything changed:
“Her health improved, her temper softened, and she stopped complaining about me. She became tolerant of all my shortcomings. The relationship between her and my mother became harmonious, and the family atmosphere warm — that’s when I truly felt what a happy home was.”
“Especially when my mother was seriously ill — since I worked on a construction site and couldn’t care for her — my wife brought her to our home, cooked delicious meals, and looked after her with great care. My mother was moved and said, ‘What a daughter-in-law — she’s done more than a daughter could.’ Later, when my father was bedridden, my wife helped my sister care for him, inserting catheters, cleaning him, and tending to his needs. I was deeply moved — before practicing Falun Gong, she couldn’t even stand the smell of changing a baby’s diaper. Without Dafa, she’d never have done this.”
“After my parents passed away, I had an unmarried sister left at home. My wife always brought her food, took her to the hospital when sick, and helped her through hardships. I saw all this and thought: Falun Dafa is so good! ‘Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance’ is wonderful! If everyone practiced it, how great the world would be! The goodness of Dafa has taken root deeply in my heart.”
However, on July 20, 1999, Jiang Zemin — refusing to hear the truth that “Falun Dafa benefits the nation and people and does no harm” — feared that the popularity of the practice would threaten his power. He launched a campaign to persecute Falun Gong, mobilizing the entire state apparatus. Overnight, newspapers, radio, and television were flooded with slander and lies — as if the sky were falling.
The ancients said: “A drop of kindness should be repaid with a spring of gratitude.”
Yet, for her faith, this kind-hearted wife repeatedly went to Beijing to appeal, only to be arrested, detained, fined, have her home ransacked, and be illegally sent to labor camps. In the end, she was dismissed from her teaching job; her son, a high school sophomore, was expelled. Their once-happy family was torn apart.
“Police harassed us constantly — we couldn’t live a normal life. My employer suspended me, ordering me to go to Tiananmen to find my wife — otherwise, I couldn’t work. Friends and relatives avoided us out of fear. I was left alone, couldn’t eat or sleep, often survived on instant noodles, and even thought of hanging myself.”
“Then, one night, a Falun Gong practitioner — herself a fugitive — risked her safety to visit me. She comforted me, urged me not to do anything foolish.”
Her compassion pulled him back from despair — but the pressure from police and his workplace persisted.
“I already had high blood pressure. One day I had an attack at home and barely managed to call my boss. Fearing an incident, they let me return to work — but not as a driver; they gave me the hardest labor jobs. No one dared speak to me. People avoided me as if I carried a disease.”
“One day, seven or eight police officers came to my workplace, including a man claiming to be Director Zhang from the criminal division, plus company security staff — over ten people. They surrounded me, interrogating me about my wife’s whereabouts, saying there was a 50,000-yuan reward for her capture.”
“I said, ‘I’d love to earn that money, but I can’t — I don’t know where she is.’ Zhang got angry and accused me of lying, waving papers and shouting, ‘We already have evidence!’ I replied, ‘Then go catch her yourself — why ask me?’ He was speechless, slapped the table a few times, and barked, ‘We can find her without your help!’ I asked, ‘Have I broken any law?’ He said, ‘No.’ ‘Then why treat me like this? You said you wanted my cooperation, but you’re interrogating me like a criminal!’ Eventually, realizing I wouldn’t cooperate, they let me go.”
The harassment didn’t stop there — his employer then forced him to divorce, even arranging another woman for him.
“In summer 2001, under pressure from above, my company leaders made my divorce a political task. They assigned people to talk to me, even found me a ‘replacement.’ The assistant manager and union chair insisted I must divorce. When I refused, they shouted, ‘If you don’t divorce, we’ll fire you!’ I said, ‘Fine, fire me — I’ll go to Tiananmen to appeal!’ They panicked and begged me not to.”
“The next day, two female union staff found me and said, ‘We’ve arranged a match for you — a 34-year-old head nurse. We’ll meet her this afternoon.’ I was furious and amused — I wasn’t even divorced! Weren’t they pushing me to commit bigamy? I smiled and said, ‘No, I can’t leave my wife and child.’ They said, ‘Why not? She’s caused you trouble!’ I thought, they’re not doing this for me — it’s for their own careers. I won’t be fooled. If I divorce, my wife and child will have nothing — how could they live? I won’t do such a heartless thing.’”
“Later, coworkers said: some admired me, some said I was stupid, and some joked, ‘Others jump at the chance to change wives — he had the chance and refused.’”
In the end, he resisted all pressure and refused to divorce, standing firmly with his wife and with Falun Dafa.
From this simple yet vivid story, we can clearly see:
First, the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong has brought immense tragedy to countless families that were once happy and harmonious.
The husband’s account shows how his wife’s practice of Falun Dafa transformed their family and let him truly experience “the warmth of home.” This is not unique — it is the shared experience of millions of Falun Gong practitioners’ families.
Since coming to the U.S., I’ve spoken with many practitioners. Almost all who began practicing before July 20, 1999, share the same feeling: Before the persecution, those were the happiest years of their lives — both personally and as families.
After the persecution began, nightmares descended upon every Falun Gong family. Lies, pressure, and terror destroyed the joy of countless homes — tragedies of separation and death have played out across China, one after another.
The ancients said: “Harmony in the family brings prosperity in all things.”
Falun Dafa brought harmony and goodness to families. Yet the CCP, through brutal persecution, forbade such harmony — destroying both families and moral foundations.
This is one of the most absurd, barbaric, and foolish acts in all of human history.
Second, the CCP’s policy of collective punishment in persecuting Falun Gong continues to ruin people without end.
Before the persecution began, from the Ministry of Public Security to the People’s Public Security University of China and the China Foundation for Justice and Courage, all had treated Falun Gong positively.
Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, was once invited to the compound of the Ministry of Public Security to treat the former Minister of Public Security and then-president of the China Foundation for Justice and Courage, Wang Fang. He also treated delegates attending the Third National Commendation Conference for Outstanding Individuals in Justice and Courage. Mr. Li held 13 Falun Gong instructional seminars in Beijing, the 11th of which took place in the auditorium of the People’s Public Security University of China. The inaugural ceremony for Zhuan Falun, Falun Gong’s main text, was also held in that same auditorium. Many leading officials in the Ministry of Public Security practiced Falun Gong. Before Jiang Zemin reached his conclusion on April 25, 1999—that Falun Gong must be “defeated”—the Ministry of Public Security had never submitted any report to the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, the State Council, or the CCP Central Committee that denied or opposed Falun Gong.
However, after the persecution began, Jiang Zemin pushed those who believed in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance into direct opposition with the Chinese Communist regime.
The first instrument Jiang used to persecute Falun Gong was the police force. By doing this, he placed all the nation’s police officers in opposition to people who believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. From then on, harassment, arrests, and home raids against Falun Gong practitioners became a routine occurrence.
With the exception of a few malicious individuals, most police officers did not wish to be enemies of Falun Gong practitioners. Yet, if they failed to implement Jiang’s persecution policy, they would face penalties ranging from loss of bonuses and denial of promotions to being stripped of their posts, disciplined, or dismissed from public service. This policy of collective punishment has harmed countless police officers.
Throughout this 26-year-long persecution, most police officers have been forced to act as “bad people,” again and again, year after year, going to Falun Gong practitioners’ homes to harass, arrest, and ransack them—turning what should have been a harmonious relationship between police and civilians into one of hostility, artificially creating social division and conflict.
Next, it has harmed countless workplace leaders. As mentioned earlier, the workplace leaders of the husband in the story exerted immense pressure on him solely because his wife practiced Falun Gong. To avoid “implication,” they even forced him to divorce his wife and went so far as to arrange a new partner for him—acts that blatantly violated both human ethics and the law.
This too is one of the most absurd, barbaric, and foolish acts in history.
Third—and most importantly—Falun Gong is not an ordinary qigong practice; it is a great Buddhist teaching that has benefited tens of millions of families. In persecuting Falun Gong, the CCP has not only destroyed the homes of practitioners but also the homes of all those who participated in the persecution.
Both in China and abroad, I have heard and seen many stories of families whose deep-seated resentments were dissolved after practicing Falun Gong. There are cases between husbands and wives, parents and children, brothers, sisters-in-law, mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, elders and juniors, and even in-laws. Many of these stories are deeply moving, touching to the core, and some even seem to move heaven and earth.
Why can Falun Gong turn conflict into harmony, hatred into kindness, and despair into hope? Because Falun Gong is a righteous and virtuous Great Law—a rare, high-moral, and magnificent teaching of the Buddha’s Way that appears once in a millennium, even once in tens of millennia.
The core principle of Falun Gong is Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. These are not only traditional values cherished by humankind for thousands of years but also universal value embraced by people of all ages and backgrounds across the world.
No matter when or where, teaching people to live by Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance—to be good people—is never wrong.
I am certain that not a single official in the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection or the National Supervisory Commission would want their wife or children to lie to them, deceive them, harbor malice toward them, speak to them harshly, commit wrongful acts, or fight and argue with them every day.
However, for 26 years, the CCP has used every means of propaganda to demonize Falun Gong—day after day, month after month, year after year—planting the seeds of hatred toward this Buddhist faith in the hearts of hundreds of millions of Chinese people, poisoning their souls, and persecuting cultivators of the Buddha’s Law by any means necessary, regardless of cost or consequence.
As a result, since July 20, 1999, one batch after another of CCP Political and Legal Affairs Commission officials, “610 Office” agents, law enforcement and judicial officials, Party, government, and military officers, enterprise and institution leaders, diplomats posted abroad, and even neighborhood and village committee officials have met with retribution.
For example, former CCP Politburo Standing Committee member and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission Zhou Yongkang, former Politburo member and Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai, and former Politburo member and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xu Caihou—all ended up with broken families and ruined lives.
Since Xi Jinping took office, he has continued Jiang Zemin’s persecution of Falun Gong for 13 years. And what is Xi most afraid of today? Not national affairs, not people’s livelihoods—but the safety of his own family.
Isn’t the persecution of Falun Gong the most absurd, barbaric, and foolish act in all of history?
After 26 years of persecution—causing endless suffering to others, to oneself, and to future generations—aren’t the countless tragic lessons before us enough to awaken people’s conscience?
I came to the United States in 2015. As of this year, it has been exactly ten years. In these ten years, not a single American police officer has ever given me trouble because I practice Falun Gong. Not a single American police officer has wasted a penny of U.S. taxpayers’ money in manpower, resources, or funds because of my faith — this is what normal people do in a normal society.
But because of the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution, I have been separated from my family for ten years. Adding the five years of illegal imprisonment I suffered in China, this persecution has lasted for 26 years, and I have been separated from my family for a total of 15 years. This is something that should never have happened — yet it truly did.
Back then, because I practiced Falun Gong, I consciously chose not to be greedy for a single cent, not to indulge in even the slightest lust, not to be attached to any power or status, and not to engage in any crooked or evil practices.
After 26 years of the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong, to what extent has the corruption of CCP officials reached today? Even Miao Hua — a member of the Central Military Commission and the director of its Political Work Department, personally promoted and heavily relied upon by Xi Jinping as the chief architect of his “political army-building” — has become a deeply corrupt official!
The CCP’s foolish, absurd, and disastrous persecution of Falun Gong — a policy that harms the country and its people — has reached the point where it must end.
On this occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, I extend my greetings across the ocean from the United States to wish all officials of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival. At the same time, I hope that you will use common sense, conscience, and reason to learn the truth about “Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” and together do your part to help end this persecution — a persecution that has harmed others, yourselves, and your descendants for a quarter of a century.
