The Global Tuidang Service Center
[People News] As increasing numbers of Chinese citizens choose to sever ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and seek spiritual and moral self-redemption, another harsh reality continued to unfold throughout 2025 — volunteers who help people withdraw from the CCP, known as the “Tuidang” (Quit the CCP) volunteers, have become key targets of suppression and persecution.
Initiated in 2004 by the overseas Chinese-language newspaper The Dajiyuan and promoted by the Global Tuidang Service Center, the Tuidang movement has, to date, recorded more than 457 million public declarations of withdrawal from the CCP and its affiliated organizations.
Inside China, those who carry out Tuidang outreach are mainly Falun Gong practitioners. In a peaceful and rational manner, they tell people about historical truths, the CCP’s abuses, the moral consequences of aligning with the regime, and the importance of personal belief and conscience. The CCP has responded with deep fear, continuing a systematic persecution of Falun Gong practitioners that has lasted more than two decades.
Statistics from 2025 show that this persecution remains intense.
2025 Persecution Data: A Nationwide, Systematic Crackdown Continues
1. Illegal Sentencing
According to Minghui.org, at least 751 Falun Gong practitioners were known to have been sentenced in 2025:
-
514 sentenced during 2025
-
237 sentenced in previous years but reported in 2025
Prison terms ranged from 3 months to 10 years, with victims aged 24 to 90.
2. Victims from All Walks of Life
Those targeted included:
-
Civil servants
-
Judges and prosecutors
-
University professors and researchers
-
Military doctors and veterans
-
Engineers, accountants, doctors
-
Farmers and small business owners
Their common “offense”: upholding the belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and helping others learn the facts.
3. Abductions and Harassment
In 2025:
-
4,803 people were abducted or harassed
-
2,348 abducted
-
2,455 harassed
-
4. Other Forms of Abuse
-
1,306 had their homes ransacked
-
70 were detained in “brainwashing” centers
-
101 were forcibly blood-tested or had personal data collected
-
34 were forced into homelessness
The oldest victim was 93, the youngest 17. Many of these actions were carried out without warrants and involved property confiscation and psychological intimidation.
5. Deaths Due to Persecution
At least 124 deaths were confirmed in 2025:
-
23 died in custody
-
13 were injected with unknown drugs
-
Others died from torture or prolonged abuse
Victims included teachers, engineers, bank staff, medical workers, and homemakers. Most of these deaths were never independently investigated.
Economic Plunder Accompanies Persecution
In 2025 alone:
-
Court fines: 3.27 million RMB
-
Property looted in home raids: 1.48 million RMB
-
Other extortion: nearly 3 million RMB
Total: Over 7.7 million RMB
Families often lost loved ones while also being burdened with heavy financial penalties.
Persecution Across 26 Provinces
The provinces with the highest number of illegal sentences:
-
Liaoning – 98
-
Jilin – 96
-
Shandong – 95
-
Heilongjiang – 65
-
Sichuan – 43
-
Guangdong & Hebei – 38 each
-
Hubei – 34
-
Beijing – 30
-
Hunan – 29
-
Yunnan – 27
418 people received heavy sentences of 3–10 years, accounting for 55.6% of cases — evidence that the persecution remains national and institutional.
Lawyers: Limited but Precious Voices of Justice
In 2025, at least 68 Chinese lawyers provided not-guilty defenses for Falun Gong practitioners. In court, they clearly stated:
-
Practicing Falun Gong is not a crime
-
Telling the truth about the persecution is not a crime
-
All detainees should be released immediately
These defenses represent some of the bravest human rights actions in China today.
Individual Cases: Families and Lives Torn Apart
Case 1: Husband and Wife Each Sentenced to 10 Years
Yang Juncheng and Ding Xiangqin of Luohe, Henan, were both sentenced to 10 years. Previously persecuted and displaced, they were jailed again, leaving a 90-year-old father without care. Police confiscated 300,000 RMB from their home.
Case 2: 75-Year-Old Woman Dragged Downstairs, Sentenced to 9 Years
Huo Guilan, 75, from Shaanxi, was dragged from the fourth floor by police and seriously injured. Authorities claimed she “fell accidentally.” She was sentenced to 9 years. She had previously been detained twice and tortured.
Case 3: Imprisoned Three Times, Total of 14 Years
Jiang Dexin, 56, from Liaoning, has been imprisoned three times for his faith, totaling 14 years. In 2025 he was sentenced again to 9 years and is now held in Hebei.
Why Does the Persecution Continue?
Over 26 years, the CCP has built a full repression system targeting Falun Gong and Tuidang volunteers through:
-
The political-legal apparatus
-
The “610 Office”
-
Police, procuratorate, and courts
-
Surveillance and “stability maintenance” systems
Under the guise of “rule of law” and “stability,” the regime systematically strips away freedom of belief and expression. At its core, this persecution reflects the CCP’s fear of conscience and spiritual freedom.
The Tuidang movement is not a political organization but a personal moral choice — a step from fear toward freedom, from ignorance toward conscience.
History Is Recording Everything
The 2025 data show that in China, people are still imprisoned, tortured, and even killed for believing in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. At the same time, more people continue to withdraw from the CCP and uphold their moral principles.
These volunteers are not political activists, but peaceful guardians of conscience. The persecution they endure is being recorded by history and seen by the world.
Responsibility of the International Community
As more countries reassess the dangers of communism and authoritarianism, the fate of these peaceful individuals inside China must not be ignored.
Ending the persecution and protecting freedom of belief is no longer only a domestic Chinese issue, but a major contemporary international human rights concern.
The sacrifices made by Tuidang volunteers remind the world that freedom and dignity are never guaranteed — they are defended with lives.△
