[People News] Since April of this year, the U.S.-China trade war appears to have reached a stalemate. However, following discussions in Switzerland, a dramatic shift occurred. On May 12, the U.S.-China joint statement announced the cancellation of the 91% punitive tariffs that were triggered by 'reciprocal tariffs.' Furthermore, the initially planned 34% 'reciprocal tariffs' were temporarily reduced to 10% for a period of 90 days.
Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal reported on a specific detail from the negotiations. According to insiders, U.S. Treasury Secretary Becerra reached into a small bowl in front of him during a meeting with Chinese officials, took out a small handful of candy, and told the Chinese officials present, 'This amount is enough to kill everyone in this room.'
Becerra likened the candy in his hand to lethal fentanyl.
He then took a bit more candy and remarked, 'This amount would kill everyone in Geneva,' and subsequently took even more candy, stating that this amount would kill everyone in Switzerland.
Reports indicate that the Treasury Secretary's humanised expression left the Chinese negotiating representatives shocked. In the joint statement, China pledged to combat the export of precursor products for fentanyl.
It remains unclear whether Becerra's negotiation skills played a crucial role in the discussions. However, it is believed that this expression, grounded in humanity, morality, and universal values, would resonate with people as long as the other party is human, and the Chinese negotiating representatives are also human.
Under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, China is permeated with atheism and a philosophy of struggle that is deeply ingrained in party culture. Conflicts between individuals, neighbours, and nations often lead to opposition and hatred, resulting in fierce competition that can lead to mutual destruction. The values of sincerity, tolerance, courtesy, and love that once characterised human interactions have largely disappeared.
The Chinese nation boasts a rich history, with numerous moral tales woven into its five thousand years of civilisation. Ancient wisdom suggests that the resolution of disputes should not involve conflict, but rather an understanding of the greater good, making concessions, and responding to grievances with virtue.
In Liu Xiang's "New Sequence, Miscellaneous Matters Four," there is a story about the melons of Liang and Chu. Both the border pavilions of the State of Liang and the State of Chu cultivate melons. The residents of the Liang border pavilion are diligent and frequently water their melons, resulting in a bountiful harvest. In contrast, the residents of the Chu border pavilion are lazy and seldom tend to their melons, leading to poor growth.
The county magistrate overseeing the Chu border pavilion, upon seeing the thriving melons of Liang, became infuriated by the poor state of his own pavilion's melons. Driven by jealousy, the people of Chu decided to destroy some of Liang's melons under the cover of night. When the Liang residents discovered this, they summoned a military officer with the intention of retaliating against Chu's melons. However, they were stopped by Song, the county magistrate of Liang, who advised, "Evil is the root of resentment and disaster. If you respond to others' evil with your own, it only worsens the situation. If I were to teach my children, I would ensure that every night someone secretly waters the melons of Chu without their knowledge."
As a result, Liang Tingren secretly went every night to water the Chu Ting melon. The growth of the Chu Ting melon improved day by day. Curious about this, Chu Tingren observed secretly and discovered that it was Liang Tingren who was responsible. The magistrate of Chu County was very pleased upon hearing this and reported the matter to King Chu. When King Chu learned of it, he felt deeply ashamed and told his officials, 'Isn't the one who destroys melons guilty? This is Liang's act of concession.' Consequently, King Chu expressed his gratitude with a substantial sum of money and sought to establish a friendship with King Liang. From that point on, Liang and Chu enjoyed a friendly relationship.
The ancients watered melons for others, fostering generations of friendship between the two nations. In contrast, today, under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, China exports drugs and fosters enmity with foreigners, requiring a Western individual to remind them of basic human conscience, which is a disgrace to their ancestors.
However, China's traditional morals have not vanished. Even in contemporary China, tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners, despite facing severe persecution, continue to quietly practice and promote traditional virtues. Wherever Falun Dafa is taught, people's hearts turn towards goodness, and morality rises, as the saying goes, 'Buddha's light shines universally, and propriety and righteousness are clear.'
Minghui.org features countless stories of moral enlightenment, and here are just two examples:
Story One:
In a village located in the mountainous region of Chenzhou, Hunan Province, there is a southern village. In the past, this village took advantage of its elevated terrain to monopolise the water supply for rice fields for over twenty years. The downstream Shui Zhuang village suffered greatly as a result and frequently faced droughts.
In July 1995, Falun Dafa was introduced to Nanbian Village, where all 176 villagers began practising. This led to a rapid transformation in their moral values. Reflecting on the teachings of Dafa, the practitioners in Nanbian Village sincerely recognised their past mistakes and acknowledged that they had wronged the people of Shuizhuang. They promptly repaired the irrigation channels, blocked the gap that led to the ditch, and redirected the water that had been flowing into the ditch towards Shuizhuang Village. Additionally, some practitioners made efforts to conserve water, competing to provide water to Shuizhuang Village.
As a result, Shuizhuang Village experienced a bountiful harvest, bringing smiles to the faces of people of all ages. Elderly farmers, while attending the local market, would share with everyone that the residents of Nanbian Village had learned Falun Dafa, which had enlightened them and fostered kindness; they benefited, and so did we. We express our gratitude to the people of Nanbian Village and to Falun Dafa.
Story Two:
In a notorious small village in the northeastern mountainous region, villagers would not consume the vegetables they grew themselves but instead stole from others' fields. After depleting the vegetables from their neighbours, they would return to their own fields only to discover that their own crops had also been stolen. Vendors who came alone were deterred from selling in this village, as one person could not keep watch, and the losses would inevitably exceed their sales.
This village was notorious for theft, fighting, and various vices, causing neighbouring villages to suffer as well. For decades, residents from nearby villages and merchants have referred to this place as the 'den of thieves.' However, after the introduction of Falun Dafa to this small village, the bad habits of the people in this 'den of thieves' changed remarkably. Everyone began to cultivate good thoughts and treat others with sincerity. Businesspeople visiting the village expressed their delight, saying, 'This place has transformed; we are eager to come here now. The locals have money, and we sell more and faster. Whenever we are here, if we face any difficulties, everyone is willing to lend a hand.'
The once notorious 'den of thieves' is now a place where nothing is lost on the streets, doors are left unlocked at night, and ancient customs are preserved. Falun Dafa has truly transformed people's hearts.
The party culture of the Chinese Communist Party has turned individuals with a rich historical background into outliers in a civilised society. In contrast, the promotion of Falun Dafa enables people to reclaim traditional morals, rejuvenating the Chinese nation and allowing Chinese civilisation to benefit all of humanity. The universal elevation of human morality is the fundamental solution to disputes between nations.
