Xi Jinping s escalating fears intensify the China-U.S. tariff war, leading to turmoil within the Chinese Communist Party and widespread anxiety among officials

[People News] The China-U.S. tariff war has unexpectedly intensified, with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) firmly declaring, 'We will accompany you to the end' in response to Trump's heavy tariffs. However, senior CCP officials recently convened an emergency meeting, and the atmosphere in the venue was described as resembling a funeral. Scholars have noted that the CCP is currently gripped by fear, with officials feeling increasingly anxious.

From April 8 to 9, the CCP held a 'Central Peripheral Work Conference' in Beijing, attended by party leader Xi Jinping, who delivered a speech. The main focus of the meeting was to enhance peripheral diplomacy, but state media reports did not mention 'Xi Jinping's diplomatic thought.'

Footage aired by the CCP's CCTV revealed that at this meeting, which all Politburo members attended, the missing Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, He Weidong, was notably absent.

On April 10, independent commentator Cai Shenkun remarked in his self-media program that nearly all prominent figures within the CCP attended this enigmatic Central Peripheral Work Conference, with various factions mobilizing, including Chen Xi's appearance. The atmosphere in the venue was likened to that of a funeral ceremony, with nearly everyone dressed in black Xi-style official attire and wearing somber expressions. Chen Min'er, who did not secure a position in the Politburo last term, was seen in a black suit without a tie. Reports suggest that all attendees were forbidden from bringing paper and pens, and were not allowed to take notes.

On April 2, Trump announced a reciprocal tariff policy, leading to an ongoing confrontation between the US and China that has unfolded over two rounds. Currently, the US imposes a 145% tariff on most goods imported from China, while the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) levies an 84% tariff on most goods imported from the US. Beginning May 2, Trump will also increase the tariff on small mail packages from China valued at less than $800 from 90% to 120%.

In recent days, the CCP has issued multiple statements echoing the sentiment of 'we will accompany you to the end.' Despite the CCP's vocal retaliation against US tariffs, no other countries have joined in this response.

In this context, Yuan Hongbing, an Australian legal scholar with connections within the CCP, told The Epoch Times that the CCP is taking significant risks in confronting the US due to two main fears. The first fear pertains to the issue of fentanyl. It is understood that during Trump's first term, he insisted that the CCP must prevent fentanyl precursor products from entering the US via Canada and Mexico. At that time, Xi Jinping remarked that the Western powers had historically used the Opium War to reduce China to a semi-colonial state, and now the US has become a hub for drug proliferation, which underscores the broader trend of the East rising and the West declining. Following this, the CCP not only failed to restrict the production of fentanyl precursor products but actually increased both production and export.

Yuan Hongbing further revealed that he received information indicating that during Trump's first term, the CCP's Military Commission and the Ministry of State Security devised a so-called 'zero plan.' The primary objective of this plan was to significantly boost the production of fentanyl precursor products, which would then be funneled into Canada and Mexico, ultimately facilitating a flow of fentanyl drugs into the US, thereby increasing American society's dependence on this substance.

Yuan Hongbing stated that Trump has aggressively initiated a tariff war, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) assesses that the U.S. government may have insight into this 'zero plan' targeting the CCP. As a result, Xi Jinping is concerned that if he backs down, he could be prosecuted as the world's largest drug lord.

Previously, Missouri accused the CCP of stockpiling protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic (referred to as the CCP virus), which directly impacted the response capabilities of medical institutions in the state. On March 7, a U.S. federal judge ruled in favor of Missouri, ordering nine Chinese entities to pay over $24 billion. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey indicated that the first step in enforcing this payment would involve confiscating farmland and other assets owned by Chinese investors.

Yuan Hongbing expressed that the CCP's second concern is that if they show weakness in the tariff war, the U.S. may further pursue accountability for the COVID-19 virus. The ruling in Missouri is reportedly a significant source of anxiety for Xi Jinping. The U.S. may soon accuse Xi Jinping of crimes against humanity related to the virus's spread, prompting the CCP to commit to 'fighting to the end' in the tariff conflict.

Moreover, Yuan Hongbing noted that the tariff war has not only left the Chinese industry in despair but has also created a pervasive sense of hopelessness within the CCP's bureaucratic ranks. Insiders within the CCP have reported that officials, including retirees, are worried that if the U.S.-China trade war escalates into military conflict, their assets in the U.S., Japan, and Europe could be seized by the U.S.

'As a result, these high-ranking officials are feeling anxious, the political landscape is unstable, and there is widespread dissatisfaction and even anger directed at Xi Jinping,' he remarked.
