[People News] A late-July car crash has suddenly brought Yang Lanlan into the spotlight. What exactly happened that night? Some eyewitnesses have revealed details.
The serious accident took place near Rose Bay, Sydney, when 23-year-old Yang Lanlan drove a Rolls-Royce worth at least AUD 1 million into a Mercedes-Benz, leaving the Mercedes-Benz driver critically injured.
According to the Australian Chinese Daily, one eyewitness recalled that he was lying in bed when a massive bang jolted him awake. The explosion-like noise was so strong that it set off shop alarms along the street.
He said he saw the Mercedes crushed at the front. A neighbour had already rushed over and called the police. “Fortunately, the Mercedes driver was still conscious and able to move on his own. The girl driving the Rolls-Royce just stood frozen on the street, clearly in shock.”
Local resident Brian Kandakji, who has lived in the area for 21 years, told Channel Nine that he had never seen such a crash. He said, “I’ve seen some horrible accidents, but this is probably the worst one.”
Police reported that Yang was uninjured. A roadside breath test returned a positive result. It was said that she had consumed several drinks before driving.
The Mercedes driver was later identified as George Prasalas, a longtime chauffeur for radio host Kyle Sandilands. He suffered devastating injuries: fractured spine, broken ribs, ruptured spleen and diaphragm, abdominal lacerations, two fractured hips, and two broken femurs.
On July 30, Prasalas spoke from intensive care during an interview on Sydney’s Kyle & Jackie O Show, which Sandilands co-hosts. He said his road to recovery would be long: “I don’t have a right hip anymore. It’s completely gone.”
Sandilands previously described his driver as “the greatest employee ever.” On the program, he revealed that Prasalas was trapped in the wreck for an hour before being cut out of the car at 4:30 a.m.: “This poor guy was pulled out from under the wreckage of a car smashed to pieces.”
On July 30, a Daily Mail reporter spotted Yang Lanlan wearing a Chanel suit when she reported to Rose Bay Police Station.
She was accompanied by a man. Reporters asked her on video how she planned to defend against the charges, how she could afford two Rolls-Royces, and whether she had any reaction to Prasalas’s shocking injuries—his right hip had been destroyed.
But when told of the victim’s condition, Yang did not acknowledge whether she knew about the severity of the injuries caused by her drunk driving.
Instead, she kept her head down as she got into a van driven by her chauffeur—a vehicle far more modest than her two luxury cars.
Yang, often seen in designer Chanel outfits, was revealed to be living in a luxury three-bedroom penthouse with wraparound balconies in Vaucluse, one of Sydney’s wealthiest suburbs.
This residence offers sweeping views of the city skyline, Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House, and provides convenient access across the harbour to Sydney’s lower north shore and Manly’s northern beaches.
The Daily Mail further reported that Yang owns a second Rolls-Royce, an unregistered white Ghost convertible valued at AUD 800,000, stored in the penthouse’s underground garage and unused.
The penthouse’s car lift can only hold up to 3,000 kg, which may explain why her heavier Rolls-Royce SUV, the one destroyed in the crash (worth up to AUD 1.5 million with full options—more expensive than many homes), was parked outside on the street.
Neighbours in the luxury rental complex described the young woman as “polite” and somewhat “shy,” but rarely seen at the property.
They added that she decorated her car’s dashboard with Labubu figures—collectable toys from the renowned Chinese brand Pop Mart, known for being rare and expensive. One neighbour remarked: “She decorated the car with those Labubu toys—it was quite cute.”
However, since last weekend’s drunk driving crash, Yang has seemingly retreated into seclusion at her penthouse, keeping the curtains tightly drawn.
