Living in His Own World to Deal with Trump: Beijing Officials Laugh at Xi Jinping’s Grand Delusions

(Dajiyuan) - Following the start of President Donald Trump’s second term, U.S.-China relations have once again become a focal point of global attention. In an exclusive interview with Dajiyuan, Chinese-Australian legal scholar Yuan Hongbing revealed that heated discussions are taking place within Beijing’s political circles, where officials believe that CCP leader Xi Jinping’s attempts to handle Trump on four major issues are unrealistic, dismissing his efforts as mere “dreaming.”

Xi Sets Conditions for Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks, Beijing Officials Say He’s Dreaming

On February 4, Yuan told Dajiyuan that conscientious insiders within the CCP have leaked information about current hot topics circulating in Beijing’s political circles, the latest of which involves Wang Yi, Director of the CCP’s Foreign Affairs Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to these insiders, the day before Trump’s inauguration, Wang Yi conveyed Xi Jinping’s instructions to all foreign affairs-related institutions on how to deal with Trump, with the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire being the top priority. “Wang Yi claimed that Putin is eager to establish an extremely close relationship with Trump. The CCP has learned that Putin, through certain Russian channels, has conveyed to Trump his great admiration, seeing Trump as highly energetic and capable. Putin has also tried to align with Trump ideologically and in terms of values.”

Yuan stated, “According to CCP intelligence, during secret private interactions between Putin and Trump’s team, Putin praised Trump’s stance on correcting extremism, saying it aligns perfectly with his own views.”

The insiders quoted Wang Yi as saying that while Putin is willing to reach a ceasefire agreement beneficial to Russia through Trump, he remains uncertain and fears being manipulated by Trump. Based on this assessment, Yuan noted that Xi believes there will be no major shifts in China-Russia relations for the time being.

Yuan explained that Xi, based on this judgment, instructed Wang Yi to deliver a clear message to the U.S.: if Washington wants China’s assistance in ending the Russia-Ukraine war, trilateral talks involving the U.S., China, and Russia must be held in China. Furthermore, as a condition, the U.S. must express support for the unification of Taiwan with mainland China.

However, Yuan pointed out that Beijing’s political circles view Xi’s expectations as delusional. “Xi Jinping lives in his own world, believing that the China he rules can exert strong deterrence against the United States.”

“In reality,” Yuan said, “Xi is dreaming of something that is fundamentally impossible to achieve.”

Tricks Over the Panama Canal

Yuan also disclosed a second topic of discussion in Beijing: CCP tactics regarding the Panama Canal.

In November 2017, Panama became the first Latin American country to officially support China’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative. However, following a meeting on February 2 between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino, Panama committed to not renewing its Belt and Road agreement with the CCP.

Yuan claimed that the CCP is using deceptive tactics to mislead the U.S. “The CCP assessed that Panama lacks the capacity to withstand U.S. pressure. So, Xi Jinping, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, suggested that the Panamanian president issue a public statement announcing the non-renewal of the Belt and Road agreement to ease American pressure. However, the real goal is to maintain the status quo regarding the Panama Canal.”

“In other words, by allowing Li Ka-shing’s Hong Kong companies to retain control of the canal’s entry and exit points, they make a small concession to deceive the U.S. and reduce its pressure,” Yuan explained. “This is essentially a conspiracy.”

Additionally, Yuan revealed that Chinese and Hong Kong companies are funding anti-American sentiments in Panama. Insiders from Beijing’s political circles disclosed that various Chinese and Hong Kong companies operating in Panama have allocated funds specifically to incite Panamanian citizens to launch anti-American social movements. “This has already begun. The so-called Panamanian citizens protesting against the U.S. on the streets are paid off by the CCP’s tyranny. According to reports from Beijing, buying off one protester costs less than $100.”

However, after meeting with Rubio, President Mulino announced that Panamanian authorities would review several Chinese companies operating in Panama, including a critical 25-year concession renewed in 2021 that grants CK Hutchison Holdings the right to operate ports at both entrances of the canal.

On February 4, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Mulino is considering the possibility of canceling CK Hutchison Holdings' contract. The source cautioned that no final decision has been made and that the government aims to proceed carefully to avoid litigation and follow proper procedures.

Inciting Anti-American Sentiment in Taiwan

Yuan also claimed that the CCP’s efforts to incite anti-American sentiment are not limited to Panama—they are also targeting Taiwan. According to insiders, the CCP anticipates that Trump will initiate a trade war with Taiwan over the semiconductor issue.

Yuan stated that Xi’s so-called third directive to counter Trump instructs all CCP propaganda and United Front organizations to seize this “opportunity.” Should Trump launch a trade war with Taiwan over semiconductors, the CCP plans to mobilize its entire United Front apparatus in Taiwan to promote the narrative that the U.S. is unreliable, stirring anti-American sentiment across Taiwanese society.

The CCP has long been fueling skepticism about the U.S. in Taiwan. In response, Sandra Oudkirk, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), previously addressed such sentiments, stating, “Do not doubt America’s commitment.”

“There is no country like the United States in terms of contributing to peace in the Taiwan Strait and supporting Taiwan’s political and economic development. No other country has worked as long and hard as the U.S. to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. So, I don’t think there’s any reason to doubt America’s commitment to maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait and the broader region,” Oudkirk emphasized.

Wuhan Lab Staff Sign Secrecy Oaths, Officials Hope U.S. Will Investigate

Yuan also disclosed Xi’s fourth directive for dealing with Trump, concerning the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The Wuhan Institute, Yuan noted, operates as a quasi-military research facility, managed under a militarized framework, with the PLA conducting biochemical weapons research through the institute.

Since Trump’s return to office, the issue of COVID-19’s origins has resurfaced. On January 25, the CIA released a statement supporting the theory that the COVID-19 pandemic (referred to as the “CCP virus”) originated from an accidental leak at the Wuhan lab.

On January 31, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about the CIA’s latest report during a press briefing. Leavitt stated that new CIA Director John Ratcliffe had revealed “this truth” to the American people and added that the truth had been delayed for several years.

The CCP fears U.S. investigations into the virus’s origins. Yuan revealed that on Trump’s second or third day back in office, the CCP required all staff at the Wuhan Institute of Virology to sign confidentiality agreements prohibiting them from disclosing any information about the institute to anyone outside, including family members. Violators would face immediate military legal prosecution.

Yuan said the CCP’s nervousness stems from the likelihood that the U.S. will pursue the origins of COVID-19.

Yuan disclosed, “According to current accounts in Beijing’s political circles, how did the virus escape? Several people managing logistics at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were selling wild animals—bats, pangolins, civet cats—that had been used in experiments at nearby markets for personal profit. This had been happening for some time without issue. However, this time, the virus (COVID-19) happened to be a biochemical weapon developed by the military. They sold the infected animals, and the virus spread.”

He continued, “After the outbreak, both Wuhan and Hubei authorities immediately reported the situation to the CCP Central Committee. Xi Jinping personally instructed them to tighten internal controls while downplaying the situation externally. The directive was to maintain a so-called ‘peaceful’ New Year and Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). After the festival, if necessary, the outbreak could be publicly disclosed.”

Yuan concluded that because Xi delayed public disclosure, the world remained unaware, and people continued to travel internationally, leading to the global spread of the virus.

“Officials in Beijing who despise Xi Jinping are saying they hope the U.S. will swiftly hold him accountable. At the very least, Xi is guilty of negligence—but his negligence is enormous. Millions of people in the U.S. have died,” Yuan remarked.
