Trump brings Black voters back to GOP

(The Center Square) -"When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice. The Bible tells us: 'How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity.'" – Donald Trump

Black voters were mostly Republicans after the Civil War and Reconstruction because the Republican Party had fought for the abolition of slavery; and granting them equal rights. For generations, many Black families couldn’t fathom being Democrats, since that was the party of slavery, Jim Crow laws, segregation, oppression, abuse and denial of equal rights. Even after the Union victory and the passage of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, Blacks had to battle the segregationist Democrats for two years to finally win the right to vote and gain equal legal and political rights.

As a result of their persistence and perseverance, 150 years ago Mississippi's Hiram Revels, a Black Republican, was elected to the U.S. Senate. He became the first Black American to serve in the U.S. Congress. Revels was followed by a total of 23 Southern Black Republicans to the U.S. Congress during a period that is referred to as the "Great Black Enlightenment."

With the Northern migration of rural Southern Blacks during the Industrial Revolution, Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal during the Great Depression, along with Harry Truman's decision to integrate the military, many Blacks changed parties. Although all four of the Civil Rights Acts were written by Republicans and filibustered in the Senate by Democrats, when LBJ signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the majority of Blacks moved to the Democratic Party. And the Democrats have depended on their vote to remain in power since then.

"We have just lost the South for a generation." – Lyndon Johnson

Recent polling data shows that the composition of the two major parties is changing. There are signs across racial and ethnic demographic groups that Republicans are becoming the party of blue-collar American workers and that is attracting more disgruntled Black and Hispanic voters.

The nation is experiencing a political “coming out of the closet” moment right now for a significant number of Blacks and Latinos are not only supporting Republican candidates, but are also running for office. Black and Latino voters believe Trump's message of opportunities and prosperity for all.

The pro-Trump shift is mainly among younger Black and Latino voters and it is spreading to the Asian electorate. The Republican Party is less white than ever thanks to Donald Trump.

On the surface, this is an enigma since the left has demonized Trump for being so outspoken about deporting illegal immigrant criminals. But these policies are resonating with minority groups who have been directly affected by the crimes they have committed and see through the left's rhetoric.

They have also seen a decrease in opportunities for entry level jobs now taken by illegal aliens.

In exit polls around the nation, Trump exceeded the levels of support he received in 2020 from Latino voters. He’s made inroads with Asian American voters, whose liberal loyalty has been declining. And the numbers he posted with Black voters is the largest racial realignment in an election since the signing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964. Can the party of Trump become a multiracial coalition?

Many of Trump’s gains were due to the mismanagement of the economy by Joe Biden and his border policies, which increased crime and unemployment in Black and Latino communities. These groups were effected most by "Bidenomics," which fueled the recent Trump-era phenomenon.

These numbers among Latino and Black voters should be worrisome to Democrats. Democrats did rather poorly among Latino and Black voters this last election. Trump posted numbers with minorities not seen by any Republican candidate since George W. Bush's reelection in 1996.

Trump has uniquely weakened political polarization along race and ethnicity. He successfully associated himself with a message of economic nostalgia, reminding nonwhite Americans to look at his pre-Covid economy in contrast to the period of inflation we’ve had in four years. His campaign messaging reached out to nonwhite voters, letting them know he would improve their lives.

Polling shows that voters remember the Trump-era economy fondly and view Trump’s policies more favorably than Biden’s. Black and Latino voters who felt the pains of inflation the most have more negative memories about Biden's’ economic stewardship because they experienced worse from inflation than white Americans and Asian Americans did during 2021 and 2022.

A recent NAACP poll found one in four Black voters under 50 supported Donald Trump over Kamala Harris last election.

History is not on the side of Democrats. Progressives have conveniently buried the past atrocities committed against Blacks by Southern Democrats for decades by rewriting history. That is why so many conservatives revolted during the pandemic and went after the school boards when they saw what was being taught to their children in virtual classrooms. This was a wake up call for parents.

For years, Democrats relied on the legend of the Civil Rights Act, (written by House Republicans) and signed by Lyndon Johnson. to maintain the Black vote. But, the younger Blacks are more educated and less concerned about civil rights than their parents and grandparents were. They are focused on their needs today and who is best prepared to meet them now and in the future.

Trump preached to a unilateral America with equal opportunity and prosperity for every person in this nation, which impressed Black males the most. According to research conducted by the Pew Research Center, this was the main reason why young Black males voted for Trump.

Barack Obama told us: "There is not a Black America and a white America and Latino America and Asian America - there's the United States of America." Although Obama's America was divided under his leadership, his intentions were good and he knew America couldn't continue to exist as a divided nation. Donald Trump's message is steadfastly bringing people together to unite America.

"Each day under our administration of American patriots, we will be working to meet every crisis with dignity and power and strength. We will move with purpose and speed to bring back hope, peace, prosperity and safety for citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed. " - Donald Trump
