[People News] The malicious car-ramming incident at Zhuhai Sports Center continues to raise numerous questions. The Public Security Bureau removed the mention of “dissatisfaction with divorce property division” from the initial public notice, yet what the authorities consistently avoid discussing is that the incident occurred near Zhuhai Intermediate Court and a cluster of government housing, mainly for public officials. Many of those participating in fitness activities at the Sports Center are reported to be retired individuals from within the system. This has further fueled public speculation that the suspect was driven to retaliate due to perceived judicial injustice, with many believing the casualties exceed the officially announced figures.

According to Radio Free Asia, on the evening of Monday (November 11), a car-ramming incident occurred at the Zhuhai Sports Center in Guangdong Province. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officially classified it as a “major malignant incident,” resulting in 35 deaths and 43 injuries.

According to the Public Security Bureau, a 62-year-old man surnamed Fan drove an SUV into the internal pathways of the Sports Center, recklessly plowing through pedestrians and nighttime joggers. However, the suspect was in a coma from self-inflicted injuries at the time of arrest, preventing police interrogation.

The official notice also claimed the incident stemmed from the man’s “dissatisfaction with the outcome of divorce property division.” The suspect had filed civil lawsuits in both a grassroots court and the city’s intermediate court and, being dissatisfied with the rulings, sought a retrial. The case was reportedly in the process of retrial.

Oddly, later, the Zhuhai police deleted references to the divorce lawsuit from the official notice.

Incident Near Government Housing Raises Further Questions

Netizens observed that the Zhuhai Sports Center is adjacent to the Zhuhai Intermediate Court, and nearby residential buildings house government employees, including those from public security, prosecution, and judicial departments. Additionally, many of the fitness walkers and nighttime joggers at the Sports Center were reported to be retired officials.

Radio Free Asia could not reach eyewitnesses or family members of the victims. However, a witness identified as Mr. Chen told Chinese media outlet Caixin that at least six fitness walking groups were present on designated paths at the Sports Center when the incident occurred. The SUV drove at high speed into the crowd, completing a loop that caused casualties in all four directions. Another social media user, known as “Loving Life Mianmian,” posted photos and an account stating their parents were present at the scene. According to the post, the father was jogging on the inner track, while the SUV struck people on the outer track. The mother was critically injured and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. The user claimed the number of injured easily exceeded several hundred.

Zhuhai residents estimate the number of casualties to exceed one hundred

The netizen also stated: "It has been over ten hours since the incident, yet there are no police officers, no media follow-ups on the victims, and no casualty statistics. Only a few related news articles can be found online."

The netizen further revealed that most of the victims were retired individuals aged 40 to 65. Photos showed that some participants in the fitness walking activity were holding red flags, suspected to be team banners. The post was reprinted by platforms like NetEase but was quickly deleted.

An individual from Zhuhai, who chose to remain anonymous due to being closely monitored by authorities, told Radio Free Asia that he had been warned by local state security not to release any related information publicly. He added that the actual number of casualties far exceeded the official figures, as officials were suppressing the numbers to protect their positions.

The Zhuhai resident said, "State security called again, specifically warning me not to discuss this incident. Among civilians, the general consensus is that the casualties far surpass the official numbers, likely exceeding a hundred. This figure seems quite reliable. Such a serious incident would have a significant impact on the career advancement of local government leaders, not just in Zhuhai but potentially affecting Guangdong’s leadership as well. When it comes to protecting their positions, they’ll stop at nothing."

The Zhuhai resident also remarked that the authorities were deliberately covering up the truth about the case, especially details regarding government corruption and judicial injustice, and warned that tyranny inevitably leads to rebellion.

The Zhuhai citizen said, "With government corruption, economic decline, and judicial injustice, how can people survive? Tyranny inevitably breeds rebels. Under such tyranny, there will only be more rebels."

On Tuesday (November 12), Xi Jinping issued directives on the incident, calling it “extremely heinous” and emphasizing the need to severely punish the perpetrator and strengthen preventative measures to avoid extreme incidents from the source.

However, the citizen argued that without fundamental systemic reform, Xi Jinping’s actions are incapable of changing the current state of Chinese society.

“The emperor himself is the accelerator of this terrible situation. All these problems were previously masked by economic growth, but now that the economy is in steep decline, nothing can be hidden anymore. Systematic change is impossible. This is merely treating the symptoms without addressing the root cause,” the citizen said.

Teng Biao: Judicial Injustice Causes Endless Tragedies

Exiled legal scholar and visiting professor at City University of New York, Teng Biao, stated during an interview with Radio Free Asia that many of the major malicious cases in China are triggered by judicial injustice.

Teng Biao said: “The Chinese Communist Party works hard to cover up the truth of events or deliberately mislead. On the surface, these incidents appear to be indiscriminate killings targeting weaker individuals. However, behind them are systemic factors that generate harm. If it can be confirmed that judicial injustice by the courts was the cause, this would indeed be a microcosm of judicial corruption and abuse of public power in China. Statistically, such malicious cases caused by judicial injustice are bound to happen sooner or later.”

Additionally, some netizens revealed that the suspect had taken out a loan to purchase a high-powered SUV before the incident and carried out the revenge plan the day after receiving the vehicle. An online document, attributed to a 62-year-old man named “Fan Weiqiu,” shows his car purchase records. It is reported that he scouted the surroundings of the Zhuhai Sports Center on the day he collected the car (November 10).

According to related statistics, China is increasingly becoming a "nation on wheels," with over 440 million registered motor vehicles currently in the country.

Another Chinese human rights lawyer living in the United States, Wei Shuiping, stated that under Xi Jinping’s regime, Chinese society has become like a pressure cooker. The CCP frequently mocks the U.S. for its gun rights, claiming they worsen social security issues. However, in recent times, incidents of using motor vehicles to retaliate against society have been occurring repeatedly. But it’s not guns or cars that kill—it’s people.

Wei Shuiping said: “China is now a high-pressure society. These car-ramming incidents, as well as cases like Zhang Xianzhong’s, are happening frequently, driven by economic and systemic factors. The CCP government has always misled Chinese citizens, saying that the U.S. is a country plagued by gun violence and social instability. However, the rate of shooting incidents in the U.S. is far lower compared to car-ramming incidents in China. When a society becomes fundamentally abnormal, both guns and vehicles can become tools for killing. It is people who kill, not guns or vehicles.”

According to incomplete statistics from netizens, from July 2024 to the present, China has already experienced over a dozen incidents of motor vehicles deliberately ramming into crowds.
